Can you use another program to play a game created by scratch?

I was wondering if you can do this so people can play  a game on a program such program such as flash without having to dowload scratch.

Unfortunately not... However, Jens has created a tool for running Scratch Projects without opening Scratch first. It almost makes your project a program in itself, but it's really faking it because all it's really doing is taking out where you can edit your projects. It's extremely useful, though:

Enjoy!

Also, what are they using to run scratch projects on the website? Some kind of Java player?

Yep - it's a Java player  smile  However, there's an experimental Flash viewer (see here for details), which was launched recently. Because it's experimental, some things are a little glitchy in it, though.

Using the "Embed" link to the right of a project, below the notes, it's possible to use the Java player for individual projects that have been uploaded via scratch.mit.edu... although I'm not sure how you would go about uploading directly to a site using the Java player...

Re: Can you use another program to play a game created by scratch?

There are plans that upon the release of Scratch 2.0 there will be a way to compile projects to a flash file. So if you want you can wait for that  smile
