Re: Unofficial Community Moderator Election Discussion

My Speech:
I would like to become a Scratch Community Moderator. I have been Scratching for a long time(over 3 years), and I know my ways around the forums. I come on everyday, and view most topics. I know how to be a moderator because I have been on a forum with more than 1000+ users. I am also an admin for Scratch Resources. I know how to use proper grammar, punctuation, and grammar, and BBCode. So please elect me to be your next Scratch Community Moderator  smile (I also know how to use smilies in the right places  tongue )

Re: Unofficial Community Moderator Election Discussion

My speech:
Can I become A Moderator? I would like to help post forums to help people created a better understanding of the scratch language. I would also help to become a Moderator to answer questions and do my best to help the scratch community this is what I would like to do. Please add me as a Community Moderator. I would remove Spam; move topics, close topics, and rude language/inappropriate words. I will also like to use good grammar and use detailed explanations and the BBCode. I would also make it easier by using screenshots and links to WebPages for more help. If I do not qualify to become a Community Moderator I will still help the community. I am certain I will do my best. I have been on Scratch since about June of 2008 I am checking Scratch about everyday mostly. If you vote for me you will be glad. It will be good to be a Community Moderator because I will help Scratch forums.

Our youngest moderator is Dazachi... Who I believe is only 9, 10 at most.

It's not really the dedication... I have a bit of a temper sometimes, I can't read all new posts without getting bored and leaving (yes, I've tried), and I'm just not dedicated enough to do a good job.

I don't read half the posts on this forum  tongue  Especially in Miscellaneous. Yet you have a far higher opinion of me than I dare say I deserve.  big_smile

Plus, moderation is a piece of cake when you get the hand of it. You don't have to scout the forums looking for bad behaviour; just respond to the reports appropriately and you're well on your way to being a wonderful moderator. Couple that with the kindness and enthusiasm that you're known for, and you'd be an awesome mod!

I believe Dazachi is 12...

CAn you put all the speeches on the top post?

Re: Unofficial Community Moderator Election Discussion

My Speech:
Hi, Scratch Team people!  tongue  ok, so, I wanna be a mod, well, obviously. Anyway, even though I haven't been on scratch very long, I've learned lot's about it. I don't just mean how to program with it, I mean I've learned about the community too. I know how to deal with bullies, and spammers. Even though I used to yell at them,  but now I realized that must have really hurt them. I know you guys must think that I'm still going to do that, but trust me, I never go, "RAWR! DON'T EVEH DO DAT AGAIN!!!" anymore. Instead, I would say "That wasn't very nice. Please don't do that again. ^^" and then if they DO, then I would just flag it. See? good, right? Sorry if I'm boring you with meaningless words, but, anyway, you know how I used to yell at people for not giving credit when it's a remix? Yeah, well, now as long it's a remix...anyway, that was pretty off topic. point is, if I were a moderator, I'd be a fun mod, and still a good one, but I would still act like a normal scratcher. I know one time I was called a "mini-mod" by someone because they thought I acted like one. So if I already act like a mod, why shouldn't I be one? sorry about all these words! ^^ (wow. that was a sloppy speech, I might redo it.)

Yep - and I believe you're allowed to vote for yourself, if you get chosen as a candidate... even though last time I voted for coolstuff, not myself, in first place ^^

Re: Unofficial Community Moderator Election Discussion

Despite my professed inability to moderate (on this thread), I may be able to reapply. It depends on what kind of time moderators are supposed to put into their role.

So, any current community moderators, I would only be able to go on 6:30 - 7:30 (every day), 20:30 - 23:30 (weekdays), and most of the day on the weekends.

Are these acceptable times as a moderator? If so I'll probably reapply. So once the elections start I may whip up a speech and "campaign". If not, I wouldn't be surprised and I'll sit this out until after fall term.

Yeah, I definitely agree. I definitely want to be a person who uses this privilege for good, and not just status. As shown in my speech (click the link in my signature), I really do plan to be very dedicated  smile

To my standards, at least an hour a day average on Scratch is good enough  smile . Whether that means an actual hour every day, or more on weekends and less on weekdays, it's still good.

That's true, many people are probably running for the title rather than the responsibility. I'm running because I enjoy cleaning out threads  tongue .

They're actually really good!  smile  The time we moderate isn't really set in stone or anything like that - I think Lightnin said to us when we became mods "moderating isn't more important than school, friends and other stuff - if you don't have time to moderate, you aren't forced to" or something like that... Basically, we're free to moderate as much or as little as we please - and if something comes up (vacation, having to study for an exam, etc...), it's not a problem if you can't moderate for a while. Thanks to having a large moderating team, it's pretty unlikely that none of the moderators will be able to come online on any given day, so reports are usually picked up pretty quickly.

Re: Unofficial Community Moderator Election Discussion

I ask once again the question that seems so quickly buried, who would consider voting for me as a moderator?

Also, since this whole fuss over moderators has started, is the Scratch Team feeling compelled to hold one soon? Hope we aren't pressuring you to much.

Re: Unofficial Community Moderator Election Discussion

Hey people, my name's LinkGuy, 50 50 chance you don't know me  smile  anyway, I'd like to run for moderator because...

#1: I'd like some things to change. People are using innapropriate language on this site in abbreviation. (I'm talking about like the word "b*m*", a word that not many people probably know but is veeeeeeery offensive). Censoring words is another problem, I don't mind the word gay, I don't honestly think a five year old is going to get offended by that, but I do mind people saying things like "I f***** hate you!" you can tell the excact word it is  hmm  I feel that even if it's censored, AND you can tell what word it is, that it's wrong!

#2: Copiers. Alot of people have probably had this problem, my friend Emilypie (also running for moderator), has had a copier and caused her alot of trouble. They did eventually clear things up and became friends. BUT! There are still copiers out there who take peoples art, character design, icon, etc. without giving credit! I'll help this come to an end, you don't have to mean, ask nicely for the people to give credit to the creator  smile

#3: Cyberbullieng, the last and worst thing I'll be covering in this speech. Cyberbullieng can really get'cha down in the dumps can't they?  hmm  Making fun of you, calling you names, making you feel bad about yourself, nobody needs that. Cyberbullieng is just like bullieng in real life. Even though the people you're hurting don't know you, they still get offended )= That's why people need to learn to respect each other, and instead of making your comment mean, give your opinion, even if it's bad, in the nicest way you can so you don't hurt anybody :3

Thanks for listening to my speech  big_smile  and if I'm not nominated I vote for Emilypie  smile
