A Survey... or Something

This is a survey... or something like that.  big_smile  The one and only question:

How did you find out about Scratch?

(If you want, I can post your story here.  wink  )
______________

My story:
My dad found it, because he works in Smalltalk and it is a very small world out there. Simple.  big_smile

ScratchReallyRocks's story:

My fourth grade teacher told me about it. I think she had a son that was at MIT at the time, so that's how she knew.

what-the's story:

School. As in introduction in to programming. Later went on to flash, vb.net and now php

Harakou's story:

My friend used Scratch and introduced it to me. 'Nuff said.

Lucario621's story:

I found out about Scratch in a newspaper; my dad saw it was being used in some schools in my area  smile  .

soupoftomato's story:

I found out about because of my dad.

Who ironically teaches what other uses found out about it in. He showed me it because he uses it in his Introduction To Programming class at the school he works at.

johndo77's story:

I read about it in a magazine that I don't know if I can say the name of. Of course I read the terms and conditions!

coolstuff's story:

I was at a computer camp in the summer of 2007. Full details -> http://scratch.mit.edu/forums/viewtopic … 111#p38111

I wrote that over two years ago, but the whole thing, especially the last paragraph, is still relevant.

Chrischb's story:

My friends told me.  smile

Blade-Edge's story:

I was battling hackers on the cyberscape, when all of a sudden I got spammed with ads from a 'reliable source'
After browsing said 'reliable source', I came upon an article about Scratch, and had to investigate.
Lies aside, I found out about it through my brother, and only joined to make him mad  big_smile
I had no intention of using the program whatsoever

Ace-Of-Hearts's story:

1967; it was the dawn of a new day at the Charleston Mansion of Kingston Ontario, Canada. The mansion wasn't really a mansion, but a large house in the middle of a prairie. A number of individuals lived there, one of them being James Nirwood. The best shot in the Navy's 23rd fleet, he had retired after an injury to his shoulder. No longer could he wield anything anymore, but on that day he did. It was this particular day that he got a letter from George Conway, the admiral. The 20th anniversary reunion of the 23rd was in a matter of days. Nirwood was picked up in a jeep the following afternoon. The boat would leave at midnight, and get there in 3 days time. Destination: London England.....

What I mean to say is, I don't know

gettysburg11's story:

OK, so I was in 5th grade gifted 3 years ago. Our gifted teacher made one of our project options to make a Scratch game. I didn't do it at first, but my friend did. When he demonstrated his project, I thought Scratch was pretty cool-looking, so I made an account and the rest is history. XD

majormax's story:

My dad told me. I don't know how he found it.

cpumaster's story:

Believe it or not, I took a rigorous, above-level math examination to get into a creative problem solving institute.  Then, out of the 75 students already in, only 30 were chosen to enter the technology course.  And what do you know, they taught how to move objects around in Scratch.  Go figure.

(They also taught ActionScripting in Flash for two hours, but that's a different story)

fullmoon's story:

I have my fantastic typing skillz to thank! All we did in middle school computer class was Type To Learn. So when I finished that about a month ahead of schedule, my computer teacher (who shall remain nameless) had no choice but to introduce me to a useful piece of software.  big_smile  And so it began!

Soo... That's all the Scratchers we have for right now. Tell us (me) your story and be a part of it! Or, come back later and there will probably be more interesting stories waiting.  smile

It was only for about 4 weeks. As I said an introduction in to programming.

php is awesome. Sessions are wiked. What I really want to do is link php, scratch and vb all together to create a program.

Nice. Besides Scratch, I only know TI-BASIC well. I really should just pick a language, and seriously study it. I mostly can't decide. Between Java, C++, Python, Flash/Actionscript (and probably others) I can't figure out which I want to seriously work hard to master.

Re: A Survey... or Something
