Really Good Sprites/Really Good Images?

I've seen people with really professional looking games, with great sprites and great art. RHY3756547 comes to mind. He seems to always have great images, like in Summer. The logo at the start was great. Does anyone have some suggestions for paint programs? I've heard of GIMP. What is it? Could it help me?

Thank you!

RHY uses Fireworks CS4.

Don't use Gimp because it is too powerful to make pixel art. Do use gimp for logos.

Are either of them free? Thanks, by the ways. And one more thing: is GIMP okay for less pixel-y art? It wouldn't be logos...it would be characters in a game.

GIMP and Paint.net are both free. (I use Paint.net)

Cool. But again, is GIMP good for little characters in games? I don't want pixel art...

EDIT: I just looked up Paint.net. It sounds like a photo editing software, and not a drawing program. I have Photoshop, so this doesn't sound great. If I'm wrong, tell me.

Re: Really Good Sprites/Really Good Images?

I usually use GIMP for graphics... I personally don't like Paint.NET (eh... I'm used to the way GIMP works...), but some people prefer it...

Both sound like photo editors, but they can both be used for drawing/making sprites.  smile

I use both Paint.NET and GIMP to make the graphics for my games. Although they can be used to edit photos, they also do a whole lot more. Give them a try, they're free!

I recommend GIMP - it's done a lot for me.  smile
