2D ART programs for Scratch

Hey I want to be able to make my own sprites and backgrounds. It sucks having to look for sprites, never finding exactly what you want.

What good programs are used for 2D art?
I'm not very artistic, but I feel I could manage some simple sprites and backgrounds.
PLEASE dont say paint for the love of God!

Paint is awful, I agree with you.

However, there is an excellent program called Paint.NET, which has some pretty advanced features yet is still easy to use. If ease of use isn't important to you, GIMP might suit your needs: it's essentially photoshop, but free.

If you don't want to use Scratch's paint editor, try GIMP or Paint.NETbig_smile

Edit: Ninja'd again! >_<
