I was giving a user some advice that was 485 letters long (below the 500 limit), and I clicked "add". It said comments can't have more than 250 letters and cleared my comment!!!! 485 letters gone like that because of a glitch! PLEASE FIX!

it happens to me every once in a while when commenting on a project, even though the comment's character count is well below 500 and even 250. As a consequence I've made it a habit to copy my comments to the clipboard first before trying to post them (because if they're rejected by the website they're gone...), and then to re-paste and slighty modify them until the website accepts them. Thought it was just me using ancient hard- and software, though ...
