When will the next Scratch Day at MIT be? I know there are local events all over the world- several near us-- but my son has a friend in Boston, and he really wants to go to the big conference. Will there be one this year? When? Will it be May 2011? I'd like to put it on my calendar right away.

It's normally sometime in mid- to late- May, although I'm not sure if a date has been confirmed yet

Since we are on the topic of the next Scratch Day, I think it would be a good idea to mention the Official Scratch Day site where people can keep track of Scratch-related events around the world.

Thanks for the info. Is the Scratch Day at MIT big? Are there lots of kids there, and lots of things for them to do?

I haven't been to one personally, but to my understanding, the event at MIT is fairly big. Supposedly a laptop/netbook (with Scratch installed) was typically needed for the event.
Perhaps the Scratch Team might have more info on the event, I'll see if I can get a team member over here to provide some more insight on the event.

I was at the last Scratch Day at MIT. I recall that we had about 300 people attend (including kids and their families). It was sold out. There was a lot going on including Lego Wedo robot sets to try out, Scratch Sensor boards to play with, an area to do "Live Coding" on a big screen, discussions about the future of Scratch, treasure hunts and so on. It was quite a party
Cheddargirl is correct - it was a "bring your own laptop" event.
