Bank

i was thinking maybe for every forum post, comment, project made you would get some $ in your scratch bank
you could buy tutorial's
(without real money,i mean the "scratch money" )
that way you would advance at your own pace

because sometimes users might move on too fast and try to do hard things on their first project and it may frustrate them and they might quit

Re: Bank

While there might be a problem with people trying to advance too fast, I don't think that a money system is going to help.  I think that would result in people posting a bunch of useless posts and comments just to earn more money.   Also, I would hesitate to put any kind of system in place that limits what people can try...I think the danger of holding somebody back is greater than the danger of discouraging them.  Just my opinion of course.

It's good that you are trying to think of ways to improve Scratch.  I'm sure the Scratch Team appreciates it!

Re: Bank

Well, personally, I never used any tutorials. I had never programmed before scratch, never done anything game-making related. I figured the best way to learn was to teach myself (did'nt work at first.) Then I looked at some top loved projects, and just studied the scripts. To this day I still havn't looked at any tutorials. Something like this could be implemented into something else, like a forum rank. You get your rank based on how many posts youve had. The rank wouldn't have any benifits, just showing everyone you like to help the scratch communtiy.

Re: Bank

People are alrady very competitive. This would encourage cheating and making random comments/posts/projects just to increase their $. Tutorials should not be bought; they are free for everyone to use and build off from.

Re: Bank

Someone should make a tutorial for every block, to help out new users who might not understand. I know if you right click it you can get "help" but it might be useful for a new user to see it in action.

That would take a REALLY long time. Why not just double click it?

I know, they could do that, but wouldn't it be better to find out different ways to use it, not just what it does? For example, the ghost effect. Nowhere does it say that it can be used for sensing collisions, yet many people are using it for that purpose. Why not give an example of how to use it?
