Well, it's all over now... let's not talk about the websites anymore. Maybe the topic should be closed...

There has been a lot of talk about having chatrooms in Scratch.
The Scratch website does not and (most likely) will never have chatrooms. We do not have the resources or the interest at this point to support the monitoring of chatrooms. User-driven monitoring is not an option for a chatroom that involves minors. We have enough work with dealing with the projects and comments on the site as it is right now.
So sorry but no chatrooms.
We also want to discourage people from using the forums, galleries and projects as a chatrooms.
As you might know some members have created their own websites with forums and even chatrooms. You are free to do that as it is outside the realm of what Scratch is about. You might also have noticed that a few users were arguing about the list of chatrooms. So if that happens just with a list of chatrooms imagine what happens with the chatrooms themselves
Anyway, if you have anything to say about this topic this is the thread where it should be posted. Any other threads about chatrooms will be closed as they do not seem to provide any valuable information about Scratch.
Thank you and feel free to contac us if you have any questions.
Scratch on!
Dear Andersmh i Agree with you completely agree with you for people who use this as a social core for wii games like SSBB. i think they should do a remix project like upload one called chat room then put like hey in it then you remix it saying what's up or whatever just solve problems

chatrooms are cool i like them. But i also think that only people over 13 should use them. so it would be a bit unfair to the ones younger if there was one

this can be like a chatroom if we cant have a chatroom?

Sorry, this is not the thread to introduce yourself.
But welcome to Scratch!
You can use any of my sprites from any of my projects
Also don't get sucked in by the "Scientist Black Hole Apocalypse Doomsday Blah Blah Blah" threads-they are totally false! Help to lower the collective paranoia around here!

To whoever had the idea of mods,
that is the worst idea ever, because if you pay attention everyone hates the mods and mods abuse power a lot

Interesting observation...do you have data to support it? Maybe you should make a new topic and discuss your views. That would be preferable to hijacking this thread. Thanks!

I agree; I don't think Scratch should ever have chatrooms. Scratch is an educational website. The point of Scratch is simply so that kids (and maybe some adults) can learn how to program. If Scratch had chatrooms, well, that really has nothing to do with Scratch. Chatrooms would simply be a distraction to people; People who would be using chatrooms would totally miss the point of Scratch! The only way chatrooms would be helpfull is if people used them like people use the forums- and we arleady have the forums!

I could see the usefulness of chatrooms that could only be opened by established, trusted adult scratch users, and were invitation only.
They could be used for instant help, talking somebody through their problem step-by-step.
EG Newguy1 posts a topic asking for help with his project, as he cannot get a script to work and doesn't know why. Moderater Paddles downloads the project, and notes that Newguy1 is still online, so invites him to a chat.
Paddles and Newguy1 both have the project open in front of them and paddles, using the chatroom, is able to talk Newguy1 through the changes/modifications he needs to make to solve the script problem he is facing.
Problem solves, Paddles shuts down the chat.

thank you. Its finally resolved. Also I get it why you cant make them. But i do know that pun can. Just why not get moderators that can work well with the chatrooms and can be on alot. Or like 24 hours. Like alot of people. Also just to tell you I would be out of the question because Im gone like half the summer. But if you dont make a chatroom with scratch moderators how about making a messageing system. You may delete my post if you want but this is just to figure stuff out maybe.
I'm on 24/7 and would be honored to be a mod in a chat room.
me too! i'm already on the scratch site too much, so why not be on it even more?

I wasn't intending to use any of the forums as chat-rooms. By the way, do you have any advice on how to actually make a project which is a chat-room? Like Club Penguin or Runescape? Also please post a comment on my topic called "Anyone Need Any Help?" if you need help with any of your projects, or anything Scratch-related.

If you keep remixing the same project just to say one word or sentence, you will end up with a billion projects! Great thinking though. I'm still trying to figure out how to make proper chat-room projects in Scratch.

If anyone goes on IRC there is a GREAT(I made it ) Chat room on irc.ircstorm.net . the room is called #scratch . If you guys go on I'll op you guys there!
Also Here is a suggestive topic about it!
(p.s. you don't need to have a chatbox on the site for it!)
