Re: What Exactly Happened?

Namco took the "Pac-man Arcade" project off the Scratch site. And almost everyone is protesting to get it back online (Including me, because I think that Namco is being unfair).

Re: What Exactly Happened?

I think Namco's saying that they've copyrighted Pacman, and thus the user who made the project can't use it without permission or something like that.

That's pretty much it in a nutshell.  tongue

A user tried making a recreation of Pac-Man in Scratch, and then Namco Bandai demanded that the project be taken down, claiming that the project was a violation of copyright of the original Pac-Man, largely on the grounds that, providing Pac-Man for free on Scratch took away major profits from the company [Namco Bandai].

Anybody who is unaware of the Namco issue, please see this thread for more insight.

Oh... So a user, recreated a Pac-Man and Namco, want it off of the web, for copyright purposes? Wait is that a good thing or a bad thing?

The community mostly sees it as a bad thing, since there's a whole petition to get the project back online.

Re: What Exactly Happened?

It's strange really, because that's just one project, if they forced removal of all pacman projects on scratch, that's fair enough. But when they pay attention to just one game, it's stupid.

Get your facts straight, namco. Why don't you remove those pacman games on the web?

Re: What Exactly Happened?

ya. namco just decided to be rude and insist for a pacman project to be taken down.

Ya know what? Screw Namco. I'm gonna make a PacMan game.

Re: What Exactly Happened?

This is what went through namco's mind:

"LALALALALA going randomly on scratch looking for things we can take down. Oh look, a pacman game! Even though it was made by a kid, people might want to play this more then the version you have to PAY for (even though made by proffesionals.) Let's wright a letter to that kid saying a bunch of things that he doesn't even understand! Then Let's take it down! What a great day!"
