Re: Become a Curator on the Scratch Homepage

I would like to become a Curator on the Scratch Homepage.

I do recall posting a request before, but that was about 10 pages ago. So a repost should be ok...

I'd like to become a curator, because this way, I could help the Scratch community, by showing more variety of projects by many Scratchers on the front page. So many people put so much hard work into projects - but they don't get viewed. I think becoming a curator will be a good step to help change that  smile . I plan to show projects, from animations, to art, to games, to simulations, and everything in between or I didn't mention  tongue .

I have plenty of experience Scratch, being here for 3 years, and being a solid contributor in many of the activities in the Scratch community.

I have many different projects in mind, from many unknown users, so hopefully they will be as great as the "Featured Projects"  smile

Thanks, and Scratch On!  smile

Re: Become a Curator on the Scratch Homepage

ok people, i'm making a new speech, cause i've totally changed the types of stuff i would curate if i were curator, due to lack of time because school starts soon. XP

Anywho, if i were curator, i'd curate one of my favorite things ever: ANIMATIONS!!! ones like http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/Rockshadow/1134928 and http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/JeffreySterling/1154082 i've also always had a love for drawing programs made with scratch. some of the ones i really found interesting were http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/Ralin/1211328 and http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/benyanman/1155167 some other things i plan on curating would be http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/markus031098/1227280, http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/BoyKetchup/1205214, and http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/gaggerman/1207609 But i will try to keep them mostly animations and drawing programs.  smile

almost every time i propose a project to get featured, it does. in fact, i'm the one who proposed Scratch Paint by werdna123, and i also proposed Interactive Me by Scratchgenius7. every time i propose something to be featured, and it does, i'm taking out of my list of things to curate, so why not just make me curator?  tongue

I plan, due to school, to curate only 1 new projects per 2 days. That's 7 projects in all.  big_smile

I hope you will consider making me the curator!  big_smile

Re: Become a Curator on the Scratch Homepage

I would also like to become a Scratch Curator.  smile

As a Scratch Curator, I would chose projects that are "interesting" in my opinion.

My type of interesting projects really vary, such as projects of artwork, people who's intention is to help others with tutorials and such, and games that use Scratch's great features in an interesting and unique way. The projects I would select as a curator wouldn't solely depend on "projects that deserve more more views" because really that isn't much of an accurate description on the types of projects you would like to chose and instead it is more of a general thing, that doesn't help anyone. Views are wonderful but I always say, "Quality over quantity" so I would chose any project as long as I felt it really supports what scratch is about, and shows off some nice features of scratch.

As for the amount of projects I would curate, I think I would do a project every two to three days, because I tend to give deep admiration to the project as it deserves.

Some examples of projects that correspond under what I would feature as a curator and why:

http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/Olliejd11/1273650
I would chose this project as a curator because it gives a twist to the classic game of pong, and turns it into a sport and also a recent event. Also it's nice that this scratcher coded a bot, which is a nice use of code!

http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/phongphlai/1276960
I would chose this project as a curator because it's this users first project; It's fun, addicting, appropriate for all ages and most of all it's a nice use of scratch!

Thank you for your time, and Scratch on!

Hello.  It would be very nice if I could be a curator.  I like story games where you fill in blanks and it tells you a story.  I would chose them because I like people to find nice projects and stories would be nice to put on the front page. big_smile

Re: Become a Curator on the Scratch Homepage

I would like to be a scratch curator to show off all types of diverse projects.

I've been using scratch for five years now, and even though I have not been on the website for as long, I've developed the liking of all sorts of projects.  Animations, games, music videos, stop motions, not only do I appreciate them all, but if you go to my page, I've made them too, which is why I know how tedious and difficult work on them can be.  An issue with working on these is that even when you spend a lot of time on a project, (I once spent three months on one) it only stays on the front page for a short time before dissapearing behind a steadily increasing number of 'recently added' projects.  I would like to showcase the projects which are just as good as the projects made by popular users, but never get views in the same large increments due to being new at scratch.  This is terrible, because users start to give up programming on scratch as soon as they see that nobody is viewing their project which really deserves the views.

I go on scratch.mit.edu on a daily basis, so I could add one project a day to the front page, keeping the featured projects fresh, while still giving the projects a few days of the limelight before they are removed from the front page.  This is great because in just 24 hours of being on the front page, the deserving project gets up to or over 200 views, and also provides a reputation for the user who might have given up otherwise.  Who knows, they might even consider a career in the computer sciences  smile

I think that scratch is a great way to begin to learn about programming, because not only is it easy to jump into, but it is also difficult to outgrow.  With new functions and blocks coming out so frequently, users like me get accustomed to new concepts and theories that are useful in creating complex projects, and essential in learning other languages such as flash and C++.  This is what makes scratch such a vital educational tool, and I want to showcase it for just that reason.

I dislike reading lengthy applications myself, so thank you for reading this one.  Please consider me for scratch currator, because it would be an honor for me to do so.

Thanks again,
CoolerThanIce

Re: Become a Curator on the Scratch Homepage

Hi I'm bdn7, and I would like to curate projects that represent things in Scratchers cultures in creative ways, like foods, instruments, animals, crafts, games, etc. They could be games, animations, interactive items, contests, anything! I go on Scratch at least 3 times a day and would add 1 or 2 projects a day, and leave preoject on for about a week. I like seeing all of the diverse projects that not enough people see, and I would like more people to see, so I would add projects from famous Scratchers and (like i said) not as well known Scratchers. Thanks for considering!

Re: Become a Curator on the Scratch Homepage

In light of Lightin's recent post I'm going to rewrite what i would curate.

A good deal of projects that get on the front page these days seem to be prank projects or have minimal programing (ie-press space to see art! not that these are bad- just taking up more room then they should be. and also the recent "Squidward falls while i play unfitting music" projects. there were 3 on the front page the other day). I would curate games that haven't gotten many views. Games take a lot of work. I would like to see the Scratchers who take the time to create awesome games that take a while to make and put a lot of effort into their programming. Thank you for taking the time to read this and i hope you consider me.  smile

I would like to be a Curator, I like all kinds of projects but I especially like  simulations, games and animations, though I have a soft spot for good tutorials! I also want to know if favorites that we want to curate will be random. And how often is a Curator chosen?

1. The curator spot chooses the curator's three latest favourites, which means you have some control over which of your favourites appears on the front page  smile

2. Every two weeks, there's a new curator ^^

Re: Become a Curator on the Scratch Homepage

if i was curator i would:

1. Make a project just for people to spam their projects on, also you can do it in the link above.
2. I would change projects every 1 or 2 days
3. i would accept ALL forms of projects
4. I would not take bribes (but i don't do art trades so i don't know how i could be bribed)

hope you pick me

Re: Become a Curator on the Scratch Homepage

I want to be a curator. Here's why:

I would choose creative projects that would get people thinking. In Scratch, although learning is important, i feel that creativity will also be important.

I would try to find such projects by using the suprise button, which i use often.

If I do get to be curator, I will try to add new projects every day, since now it's the school holiday for me.

Also, SCRATCH ON!

I don't mean to be rude, by the way.

I would like to be a scratch currator. I would like to show pojects that are comedy and mazes. I want to show them because they are good projects but not too many scratchers know about them.
Thank you for considering choosing me for scratch curator.

Re: Become a Curator on the Scratch Homepage

I would like to be curator. If I was curator, I would show projects that are very good but have very little views. I'd try to get some of the lesser known talent into the spotlight. Projects that took time and effort to make, and are entertaining is what I will show.

If I was curated, I would choose great project games that had no attention. I would pick the best of the best with the least of attention.
