Previously resolved suggestions seem to avoid being brought up too much, though... 

But yeah, the consequences of the closing would be rather risky.

I disagree. I think the Scratch Team is truly overreacting to the consequences of closing/moving misc. Although some say that the spam would spread to other forums, I disagree.

I personally, am flexible. I'm ok with both of the solutions; moving misc and closing misc.

You're not flexible enough to leave it as is, though.
And that's probably how it's going to stay

Who said it was just the Scratch Forums that would be affected by the spread of spamif Miscellaneous was closed?    Keep in mind that it is not just the forums that is important here, one must also think about the whole site in general.

There is no guarantee that closing down Miscellaneous will end spamming once and for all on Scratch, but that it will extend to other parts of the website. To give one possible example, there are cases where galleries and projects being used for chatting; it is likely that this behavior would increase if Miscellaneous was closed.

What if we created a forum topic for the spammers. The advertising forum?

What would that do? It's the same thing as anger. Letting your anger go by screaming or something won't get rid of pent up anger inside of you. It'll make your body get used to the feeling of being angry. The spammers won't release all of their urges into this one topic. It'll make them want to spam even more. Also it'll attract crowds who think that we allow spamming here, and we don't want that.

Like I said, spur-of-the-moment, crazy, and stupid.

But that would be great! People would be more encouraged to make similar projects and remixes, and projects related to the gallery. And, instead of making forum threads about trips or birthdays or whatever the subject is, they would be projects! So it would be absolutely fine!

No, I mean chat galleries, as in galleries whose mere purpose is that of chat room only, not encouraging to make projects. There project-less chat galleries are much harder to track (and thus harder to moderate); I've caught a lot of them a lot of them floating around already, so imagine how many more would increase should Miscellaneous be closed.

Hey - if you don't like chat galleries, than feel free to delete all the RPG and collaboration galleries  . A lot of the posts there are just posts that say "ok i gtg" and other off-topic stuff. To me chat galleries aren't THAT harmful. They're stlil public, but they don't annoy people as much, because they're not right in front of your face like forums  .

I still think miscellaneous is more of a threat than off-topic galleries though 

Mnn, I don't really see it that way - I stumble on a lot of chat gallery topics that break the Terms of Use, and from reading them, I'd might say they're worse in behavior than what I've seen in Miscellaneous.

Aside from that, most Miscellaneous flare-ups are usually controlled fairly quickly because there's usually someone who is watching over them; and on calm days, Miscellaneous can actually be rather quite nice with interesting discussions (like discussions about experiencing a Ramadan fasting, going to MIT, long words, art critique, or Salvador Dali).

Something I've noticed with Miscellaneous over the years is that usually trouble spots are limited either to certain topics or certain users (and when these are usually taken care of, then the mischief goes away), so I'm not inclined to think that Miscellaneous is the main problem here (hence why I believe closing it completely doesn't help).

It think its more up to us Scratchers who currently use Miscellaneous to turn it into something more positive. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: The power of remarkable change is in our hands. Now let's use that power to move Miscellaneous in the right direction.
