Scratch is solely used to make scratch projects. Try downloading the scratch program and looking at the code of this project.
The possibilities in which type of projects you can make is almost endless. Almost only limited by your imagination. And, don't be so hard on yourself. 
Everyone here had to learn about scratch at one point of there life.
Try introducing yourself under the "New Members" forum, and feel free to ask any questions about scratch there.

Thanks! I tried to mishmash the positive points of both previous bounces into the third, and it seemed to work well
Personally I'm still more partial to the black background, but the white was fun too
