Why hack Scratch?

Why do we have to hack Scratch? Isn't it fine the way it is? Yes, there are limitations, and yes, it is AWESOME to put new blocks in, but it's fine the way it is! What if someone does something wrong and screws up their Scratch program, or even their computer? I feel that it is interesting to put new blocks in... but why waste time with codes and editing? How do you feel? Please reply.

Um, it is not really hacking. It is editing the source code, which is put out there so people can try to edit it, it does not affect THEIR scratch in any way shape or form, and it can do nothing to your computer. The source code was released so people COULD edit scratch. By the way, if you add a new block, you get a "Scratch" not Scratch but "Scratch" which has all the functions, but is not your copy of scratch!!!!!!!!!!

Just go look at Jens' project Flip, open your sourcecode, and start. All you really need to know is the syntax used. Taht tutorial is for Squeak, and will only help get you accustomed to using  it. It might help, it helped me.
