Yeah, I just checked it out, there are some rate differences between in-state and out-of-state students (out-of-state students apparently have to pay about twice as much per credit). Obviously, when it comes down to it, it's usually the room and board accommodations that end up breaking the piggy bank, so to speak; but if you can get an apartment for cheap or someone who's willing to house you in for free, then the price is reasonable.  smile

How close to college bound are you Cheddar Girl?

If I'm not mistaken, Cheddargirl is already in college.
I can't seem to find anything in the forums supporting that, so I'm probably wrong.

I'm pretty sure she's in high school. I seem to remember that when she, steppenwulf, and I were all Top Viewed, somebody said that teenagers were dominating the row. I'm guessing she's 16 or 17. (Sorry cheddar if I'm wrong.  smile  )

Oh, I guess I should answer the survey... I think it would be cool to go there. I'm looking into a lot of colleges, though.

Private American colleges and universities generally cost a lot if. But government-sponsored American colleges and universities are much cheaper. Check out the Grove School of Engineering at City College of New York; it's also world renowned, and it's around $4000 per year for a full-time graduate student. Compare that to MIT's tuition costs which are in the tens of thousands of dollars.  tongue

yeah but government sponserd usually isn't as good of an education compared to most private schools  hmm

Actually, some are very good. GT is ranked as the 6th best engineering school in the country, and it is public. Chapel Hill in NC is also ranked highly as a Liberal arts school. Berkley is ranked 3rd in engineering but is also a state school. It just depends.

I like Conservitive arts  wink  lol Yeah some are better than others, and some are worse than others. It all depends.

possibly. I like the Idea of going to a well-known tech school like MIT or Carneggie Mellon, but also would consider going somewhere with a flight program (possibly millitary) or something else good like ohio state.

Well, since you're not participating in this poll, I'm guessing you're out of the age range, so I'm going to make a wild guess and say you're 21  tongue

Although I doubt that's right.

No, I am not going to major in engineering; instead, I am going to be a doctor. MIT is definitely great for onlooking future engineers, but not for the medicine region of universities.  big_smile

I would like to go at MIT at some point in my life. My parents semi-joked about moving to Boston if I ever ended up there.

I want a PHD in aeronautical engineering, and a Masters in Computer Science.

But probably not Canadian families.  tongue

Would I like to go to MIT, all costs aside? No - I have absolutely no familiarity with it (aside from Scratch), have never been there, and really don't know squat about it. Also, that would mean leaving Canada, and it truly is my "home and native land."

Now, continuing speculation about Cheddargirl's age... 35?  tongue  Just a wild guess.

Re: Poll: Do you want to go to MIT when you grow up?

No - but as a visit (for Scratch Day @ MIT or something similar... I want to go to Massachusetts anyway - because of relatives and such), yes...

My first choice for university is Cambridge  big_smile  Second choice... ehhh... there isn't really a second choice yet... Oxford, maybe... Even though Oxford's meant to be better than Cambridge, living costs are more expensive in Oxford, and it's further from where I live currently... it costs over four times as much to go from my nearest city's train station to Oxford than it does Cambridge  yikes  Quite *why* I found that out, I'm not sure... I was bored xD
