There was a project I worked really hard on, but my CPU stopped working, so I saved it and shut it down. When I came back to open it up, it said: "Could not read project; file may be damaged: (key not found)"
What should I do? How do I get it to open up properly again?

Probably report this thread and move this to troubleshooting, you can get better help there

Yea, this should be in Troubleshooting. I'll tell the Scratch Team for you.
Anyway, I'm not sure why it is doing that... The last time I got that was when I changed the ScratchSkins folder, I did something wrong, so it couldn't find the correct images. But your problem doesn't have anything to do with that!
Maybe you saved the project with BYOB and tried opening it tin Scratch? That would explain it... It wouldn't be able to read a BYOB project.

This is a problem that if your project is still saving and you close the window, it damages the file.
Sorry, theres no way to get back your project

Ah - there are two of these topics... I'll try to turn them into one topic...

Oh. Then I guess it must have been an error since your computer wasn't working halfway. It must have messed up the file

The shut down of the computer corrupts your file if its trying to save.
I have a nice tip. Every ten minutes, save your project, just in case, so that if you lose something, it wont be much.

I make a base project with the hardest scripting so that if I save it and it corrupts, I still have the base file to go back to.

@ScratchU8
Try recovery software. Just Google it and download some. It might work...
