ITopic: Propose projects to be Featured (Read first post first !!!)

I want to feature new projects that have not gotten enough attention. I am looking for your help. At this point we only want proposals from people whose account was created more than 2 weeks ago.

Please note that proposing a project does not mean we will feature it, we are only looking for suggestions.

These are the kind of things we're looking for:
1. simple projects
2. complex projects
3. projects that show an innovative use of Scratch
4. project that promote collaboration and remixing
5. projects that show the diversity in our community (gender, age, culture, country, interests, etc)
6. project that different kinds of people would find enjoyable
7. projects that inspire

A project CANNOT be submitted if it...
1. was created by you. This means that you CANNOT submit your project. Clear?
2. was created by someone whose project(s) have been  on the front page already in the last six months (excluding Newest projects or Design Studio)
3. was shared less than 1 week ago
4. uses media (music, images, etc) from a commercial entity such as Nintendo, Sega, Disney, TV shows, movies, etc.
5. has received more than 10 love its already.
6. has violence including weapons, hurting animals or people
7. contains language inappropriate for all ages
8. is a copy of a commercial game or story, it's OK if it is inspired by though
9. has been on the front page already (excluding Newest projects or Design Studio)
10. doesn't work well online

Thanks!

I would like to propose "Burst Fire Gun" by Bisonic (http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/Bisonic/198338). Simple and inspiring.

See, now I have a problem.  I went and looked at this project and was very impressed.  I wanted to put a "Love it" but then realized that if I did, I might make it no longer eligible for Featuring (see rule 5 in the ineligible list).  I chose to interprete rule 5 as "no more than 5 love-its at the time of nomination".  I would like to see rule 5 clarified in this respect.

Great idea having open nominations for Featured...and I like that you published the eligibility rules.

My Madness 3 project shows up in most of those not allowed to be submitted, including 1, 3, 6, but i still think it deserves to be featured  hmm

On a second thought, it seems a bit violent. If only it didn't have the reference to a gun...

I have a question- why can't you feature a project that uses media from one of the major companys? Legal issues?

Yup. I hadn't taken into consideration the name of the project. But, as deatheater says, it looks much more a spray than a gun  smile  Anyway. I'll take your judgement.

I would like to nominate controllable trilobite http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/fbrd/161876 it's simple yet fun to play. It has a creative idea and good graphics it also teaches people (maybe a tiny) about the kind of life a trilobite. Although this project already has 5 love-its it's been on the website for 2 months and I think it is a worthy candidate.

Re: ITopic: Propose projects to be Featured (Read first post first !!!)

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to nominate the following project 1. because it has 9 love-its and 2. because it is a scratch 'copy' of Conway's Game of Life
But if I were allowed to I would definently nominate it. It is an amazingly realistic and fast simulation of one of the most amazing games in the world. And it deserves more appreciation than it has.

There's only one thing, many undiscoveree projects that should be featured have more than five love-its, not a lot more love its, but more, so there is a problem.

Re: ITopic: Propose projects to be Featured (Read first post first !!!)

I hereby nominate this project to be on the front page. It is called Advanced Line Art. You use the arrow keys to move a spinning line that changes color as it goes, creating beautiful line art. Here are seven reasons for nominating this project:

1.) It is a simple tool, yet beautiful when you use it.
2.) It has an option for size, color changing, speed, and rotation.
3.) There are two background choices: Black and White.
4.) It is fun and creative.
5.) It is one of my best projects, so I hope you like it!
6.) 9 people love it.
7.) None of my projects have been featured yet, so it would mean a lot to me.  smile

And that's why I nominate Advanced Line Art to be a featured project!

But you can't nominate yourself. Hmm… well… I dunno. I haven't really seen any from someone that should be featured, though I'll keep my eyes open

Re: ITopic: Propose projects to be Featured (Read first post first !!!)

I saw one, but it was made 2 months ago and it isn't super clear, but it's Build A City 5_ Modern Times.  It's kind of fun though, with loans and time and a map and all that stuff. And it has inspired me to make a game- Civilization Builder. It would be very similar but more clear and a bigger layout

Re: ITopic: Propose projects to be Featured (Read first post first !!!)

Interesting idea, Andres. I'm looking forward to seeing how the experiment works out. I have a couple queries:

I assume that rule 2 is meant to cover just the "Featured," "Top Loved," "Top Downloaded," and "Top Remixed" categories. Pretty much every project, after all, has been on the front page under Newest, and many deserving projects have appeared as "Random." That at least is how I interpret it.

Again re rule 2, what if the project is a remix -- which we want to encourage -- and one of the creators has been featured, and the other hasn't. For example, I would submit Goch's "Poe" project based on Kevin's flashlight project. But sitting here right now I can't remember for sure whether both of them have been on the front page before (though I suspect they have). I suspect in this case it would be OK as long as the creator of the end project (Goch) had not been featured.

Thanks.

NEB4000's "March Of The Penguinies". Him and I made it at school at Scratch Club. He did all the programming. I just did the artwork and testing. I give 75% credit to him (and 25% to me for helping a bit).

Go to: http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/NEB4000/185723

If you really think it is "violent" (which it's not at all), you can see even more violence on the weather network.

Re: ITopic: Propose projects to be Featured (Read first post first !!!)

How can you tell if somebody's project takes media from a commercial source? It's one thing if the project is a clone of Sonic the Hedgehog, but if somebody downloads some music from an obscure Playstation game and uses it (and nobody but the creator knows that), is it then out of the running?
