Block resources dev thread

This is the development thread for block resources. So far it's sparks and I who are on the team.

Re: Block resources dev thread

I have a few ideas:
1. You can upload a picture of BYOB block coding
2. You specify the details of all inputs and variables in the code. (i.e one input is a boolean with multiple inputs)
3. Mouse over the block coding to see a picture of the block.
4. Optionally, upload a project with the block in it.
5. A project on the home-page with the best blocks on it. (
6. Voting for blocks to be put in it. (i.e. similar to the top-loved system on Scratch.)

We can maybe create a shared folder on dropbox.

I also met the BYOB guys at the Scratch Conference at MIT.

Re: Block resources dev thread

this looks cool, I think for BYOB, we can use sprites with the block inside and an image like this one to indicate what the block is:

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6273449/BYOB%20block%20file%20image.bmp
can be the costume for a sprite containing a BYOB block and

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6273449/BYOB%20script%20file%20image.bmp
can be the image for a sprite containing a BYOB script.

that way, rather than supplying the blocks as an image that has to be copied, the block can be supplied as a sprite file and imported into a project.

The same cannot be done for Panther because an unknown problem stops custom blocks being exported or imported with a sprite, but we can release the block in a project that contains nothing but that block in the stage, and using the "import project" button in Panther, the block can be imported with that project... Just some ideas?

For panther blocks we can just have small-talk to copy and paste, or we could have a project with blocks in the stage I suppose.

Re: Block resources dev thread

hey!
i have a suggestion (dont take me seriously if it aint possible)
make a block that you can download that reads blocks from the URL and tells you the code!
(it would be rough. i dont know any *python* either.)

Back in my day.... there were no laws that censored the internet... now, there are.... nah.

hmmm... clever. Panther has file I/o so t doesn't seem impossible. For panther it seems  ok to do advanced block sharing ideas but for byob I like code images.
