Whenever I look at a Scratch project online, there is a white rectangle thing covering the green flag, the Stop button, and the top half of the project.

That is weird! Do you think you could show us a picture?
Somebody else had a similar problem that was fixed by scrolling down. You could try that…
The problem, I think, is caused by a rather prominent bug in Java.

Is it this project?
What browser and version?

No, it's EVERY project. I used the Virtual Scratch Cat as an example.
I use Firefox. Don't know what version. I don't have Safari. Or any other browser.

Well if it's anything like FF for Windows, go to Tools > Addons > Plugins and find the Java Platform plugin. Then "check for updates" in the lower right hand corner of the window, and find the Java Platform plugin again. It should say if it is outdated or not.

Hmm, I have a Mac and I've never had a problem with this...I would suggest to first click on the Apple menu and click 'Software Update.' If it's a Java problem, that will come up with an update. As for the Browser problem, I would suggest either using Safari or Google Chrome. I haven't had any problems with either of those.

I have another diagnosis. It may be an HTML misread. I don't think that there is any problem with the Java, but a problem that is making the browser think that it should put that white rectangle there. I would suggest either upgrading your browser, or using a new one.
