I think it would be better if you could be the only one to see your post count. No one else can yours, and you can't see theirs. This way, there won't be any posting for a higher post count or anything tongue

But you could tell your post counts to others...

In addition, we're probably not going to change the ability to see others' post counts, because one's post count is a sign of how experienced they are in scratch to an extent, so if you're helping somebody in All About Scratch, a post count is likely to change how you're going to word your message (in a positive way).

And if you did not see peoples most count you could be explaining something to someone with 5000 posts like they are new.

How about I break it down instead?

There's no reason to hide post counts, there's not really much racing to get ahead these days. Maybe when it trends back in we'll talk, but we most likely won't be doing it this way. There's also whatever Lucario said, I didn't read it so I'll just avoid that section of the argument, I'm sure he'll get it all.

Like Ace-of-spades said, post count racing hasn't really been a problem lately. And I think if it was, hiding post counts from everyone but yourself would just lead to people asking "What is your post count", and then arguments about if they lied about their count or not.

No way! Competiton is healthy! If the Scratch Team implemented this, about 99.99999999999999999% of scratchers would leave! And the rest would find their experience diminished... if it's spam, report and watch the mods clear the entire thing up in less than 5 minutes. Someone once trolled me. I reported. I grabbed a snack and came back. The post was deleted. Ultimata Efficency. Not naming names, but a mod from 4Chan and 2 from Kongregate could learn from Scratch.

Personally, I think it's fun to go around posting (not spamming) on the forums and watching your count go up. I remember when I had like 150 posts; it wasn't long ago...

Putting them beside each other is comparing them. They are different sites, they have different rules, they have differently trained moderators.

Competition MAY be healthy in SOME ways, but when it's mixed with giving feedback to others and talking and collaborating with projects, it gets in the way. And because they're mixed together, it has a negative impact.

Secondly, not that many people would honestly leave. Rather, it would perhaps make some people leave, but it also make more people happy, and make it a better environment for discussing scratch, projects, collaborating, and more.

Sadly though, there's no fine line of what's spam/trolling and what's not, so that's part of the issue here. In my opinion, if I could do what you'd mention, I'd flag the miscellaneous forum xD

Anyway, I feel that post counts aren't that important as to how famous a scratcher is. If you see spam posts designed for post count increasure, report them. Teh mods will pwn.

It's not a flame war and what other way of knowing how experienced someone is would you look at? Looking at their join date? That doesn't work.

The Scratch team is looking into ways of giving more meaning to post counts.

Example:

A moderated post decreases your count by 3
An approved post increases by 2
Any post gives 1
