I used a free program from the internet called Glovepie to make my Rockband guitars input emulate keyboard input. I created a Virtual amp program on Scratch so you can play notes with it. There's instructions in the project notes and and the Glovepie script you need to copy and paste into Glovepie to get it working. Please check it out! http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/dndgeek/1260158
I think this has a lot of potential! Glovepie maps joystick and game controller input to keyboard keys, so for example, pressing the green button on the Rock Band controller will have the same effect as pressing the "g" button on the keyboard when using my script. Technically, you could type with it! Glovepie supports lots of controllers. Wiimotes, PS3 controllers, joysticks, you name it. People can use it to make projects that use other input devices. Someone could even make a Rockband game with the real instruments (I'm too lazy, but I'll be happy to provide the Glovepie script). I may make a project similar to this guitar one except it uses the drums instead, and possibly another guitar amp with a better User Interface and more features.
P.S: I'm in no way connected to Glovepie or trying to advertise it. I just think it would be cool to see it used hand in hand with Scratch to create new and creative projects.

Cool! I did the same with my PS3 controller. But I used a program called "joy2key".
