What is Scratch made in

As a programmare i was looking for a way to learn my 11 y son to write program.
I try with a lot of things but normal program was boring.
Then i found Scratch and now he is writing programs/animations.

This is so great that a send a tips to a swedish computer papper hopping
it will spread the word here in Sweden to..

But as a developer i am intrest what enviroment/language Scratch is made in.

You can download the Scratch Source Code (it's in Squeak Smalltalk, als deatheater correctly pointed out) and some instructions from http://scratch.mit.edu/pages/source
