Ubuntu on Cellphone?

I'm trying to find a way to run Scratch on my cellphone; Motorola Q9C running Windows Mobile 5- no Java available.  I've tried using the J9 java emulator and JBED, but stll no go.

I see there is an Ubuntu 9 version of Scratch available.  Ubuntu 8 can be run on some cellphones, so I'm wondering is anyone has tried to run Scratch on Ubuntu on a mobile device?

The ideal situation for me would to have a Scratch.cab version, or even a Scratch.jar but a feasible alternative would be to set up Dual Operating Systems on my mobile, maybe running Ubuntu from the storage device just for Scratch use.

I know I'm expecting an awful lot from my 3 year old mobile, but what have I got to lose at this point.  If this is simply NOT an option, what about running Ubuntu as the OpSys on the phone (completely wiping out Windows)?  Not my first choice, but if I buy a new phone, the Q9C will be just a toy anyway.

Thoughts?

Re: Ubuntu on Cellphone?

no need to change OS. there's this squeakvm that can be run on winCE.
haven't tried it, but it should work. it does the same thing as the SCRATCH.EXE file, so you need to add the image. there's a forum thread about it. link:

Re: Ubuntu on Cellphone?

Thanks for the link!

I've had some trouble trying to get WindowsCE apps to run on Windows Mobile 5 before. The main problem is WinMobile5 runs .CAB files not .EXE files, but I'll try different versions to see if any of them work, and I'll post a follow up if they do.

Maybe I can contact the VM programmer and see if s/he has ideas also.

Thanks again!

Re: Ubuntu on Cellphone?

Windows Mobile does run exe files. (I have it too.) The .cab ones are the installers.

On this stickied page there is some help plus a link to the Windows Mobile Squeak VM. It works, I tried it. However, the scratch program is designed for large screens, it doesn't work properly.

All we need is someone to write up a 240x320 layout for scratch  smile

Re: Ubuntu on Cellphone?

Strange I tried it again about 10 hours later and it worked odd.
