Can someone explain to me why necroposting is so bad? I still never understood how it's considered spam. hmm

When a topic stops being posted in, the discussion is considered as over - necroposting in a topic brings that discussion back. Plus, old topics often become useless - they often discuss things that aren't relevant to anything at this time. Bringing up those discussions isn't really a good idea. wink

If you have a good reason to bring up an old topic, go ahead! smile

Also it should be noted that what some people call Necroposting is not even necroposting. A topic should have the last poster as 2 months old before posting in it can be considered a necropost. If it's in your Newest Posts since last visit, then that's not a necropost either. Could someone verify this though? Like a scratch team member or moderator.

As above... one more thing, though: In this forum, Advanced Topics, and Miscellaneous, threads automatically close after two weeks of no replies.

Ace is right - it's just Miscellaneous that uses 2 weeks.

ITopics aren't affected by that stuff though... well, of course.

Anyways, necroposting is only bad if you're pointing something out to users who left a long time ago (which is sometimes hard to conclude), contributing nothing to the conversation (EG pointing out a spelling error), or pointing something out that was already concluded. When the thread stopped being posted in, the discussion was probably over, so I don't think it's that good an idea to necropost.
