So it was the beginner's tournament, no?

Yup. But we have 1st place wins in the begginer, intermediate, and elite divisions.

You see, I am a black belt, gonna be second degree soon. So I participate with the black belts. For you, that would be elite, no?

I once went to the 3rd quarter states, if I won there, I would go to Nationals(all the country). But I am a black belt 1st degree, but I'm only 11, but they decide sparring based on rank, so I had to fight a 24 year old. I didn't beat him, but I did beat a 17 year old    Overall, I got 12th(out of 40), which is pretty good   

Then, at the same tournament, I did weapons sparring. There, I got 24th out of 40 because of a bad hit to my chest, from that same 24 year old. I think he was intimidated by me 

Finally, we moved on to freestyle forms. There it was a knockout, and I was up against that same 24 year old, and he could do a bunch of flips, so I was knocked out in the second round. Overall, I think I did well for an 11 year old 

Oh yeah, congrats    That's pretty good getting 1st in your first tournament. Keep it up! And if you fight that 24 year old any time in the future, kick his butt for me

My only thought after reading this was "I'm older then you."

Yeah, I'm only 11, turning 12 in December.

For me it's white, yellow, orange, green, blue, brown, purple, red, red with white stripe, dark blue, then black. For black, the number of years it takes to get the next degree is equal to that degree. For example, it takes 3 years to get 3rd degree. We have evaluations every 6 months. Whew long explanation.

My belt order is:
White, orange, gold, green, purple, blue, blue 1st degree, brown, brown 1st degree, red, red 1, red 2, black. then for degree it takes as many years as the degree is(2 years, 2nd degree, so on).

I'm a black belt 1st degree in karate and tae kwon do, and a brown belt in jujitsu and kenmpo.
