Re: Who here cooks?

Me. Most of what I cook usually involves boiling something in water, although there have been a few times where I have to fry stuff.  smile  I sometimes bake, too. I actually want to take a cake decorating class at Michael's, so maybe I can bake and decorate a really cool cake one day.  smile

Re: Who here cooks?

I LOOOOOOOOVE cooking. Cakes mainly, but we do make other stuff, like apple pie with the apples straight from our garden. I also enjoy making profiteroles, I love stuffing them with cream! Oh, and I went mad about pancakes for a while. I'm gonna hopefully make some banana bread/loaf (whatever you want to call it) today, depends wheather we have any bananas. At a cookery club I joined we made Thai green curry. It was tasty! I usually just bake cakes. I can't do cookies, I've tried and it turned out terrible.

I wasn't talking about prettiness. I was talking about perfecting the taste, which takes time, and effort. If you make it easy, the taste obviously isn't as good. And, true, prettiness does not determine taste, but, prettiness does determine if people will eat it of not  wink

Re: Who here cooks?

I love cooking! ^^ Well, actually, I love eating, not cooking.... and cooking is just a.... side effect of eating.....  hmm  So yeah, here are some awesome recipes for you peeps, you deserved it. :3

I. Awesome sauce for pasta
Ingredients (for 8 portions):
ground meat - 750g, 1 onion, 1 carrot, tomatoes in tomato sauce - 800g, salt - 2 teaspoons, ground black pepper - 1/4 teaspoons, nutmeg - 1/8 teaspoons, dense cream - 60ml.

1. Chop the onion and carrot into small pieces. Take a saucepan. Oil it (use olive oil) and cook the chopped onion and carrot until soft (usually 5-7 minutes).
2. Add the ground meat and cook it until the reddish color disappears fully.
3. Put the tomatoes in along with the liquids. But make sure you mash them into a mass beforehand. xD Also, add the salt, nutmeg, and pepper and mix. Wait till it boils and cover it with a lid. Reduce the heat to minimum and leave it to simmer for 20-30 minutes.
3. Take off the lid, add cream and mix.
4. Ta-daa! Now you can eat your pasta with awesome sauce. ^_^

II. Oyakodon
It's Japanese! :-D If you don't like sweet meat, don't cook this. I love sweet meat, and this dish is delicious. Also, it's pretty quick and easy to do. ^^
Ingredients (for 1 portion):
2 chicken legs, 1 small onion, soy sauce, sugar, water, a large egg, some parsley, rice.

For this dish, each portion should be cooked separately.
1. Cut the meat into small pieces. Cut the small onion into rings, then cut the rings in half.
2. Put one tablespoon of water, two tablespoons of soy sauce, and two teaspoons of sugar into the pan.
3. Boil the mix and put the onion in.
4. Let it simmer for a few minutes and put in the meat.
5. Cook for about 4-5 minutes, put in beaten eggs and parsley.
6. Cover it with a lid and cook for 1 minute.
7. Yay, it's ready! ^^ Serve it atop a bowl of rice.

III. Chicken with cherry sauce
If you don't like sweet meat, don't cook this either, because the sauce for this is very sweet. >.> And even more delicious than Oyakodon.

I really love this one. ^^ The only big minus is that it takes a long time to make.  hmm
Ingredients (for 4 portions):
1 chicken, weighing about 1,5kg, 2 large onions, 1 piece of garlic, 0,5 teaspoons of dry thyme, 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil, ground black pepper and salt.
For the sauce:
cherries - 200g, dry red wine - 125ml, sugar - 100g, 10 pieces of black pepper, 2 bay leaves.

1. This is what really takes long, but you should do it for safety purposes. ^^ Take a bunch of wine and put it to simmer (not boil!) for about 3 hours. It will evaporate so be sure to check in every half hour or so and add water to keep it at its original volume. Also, it will stink, so open the windows and close all the doors. D8<
This is to make sure you don't consume any alcohol, btw. ^^
2. After you've done that, you can start the actual cooking. Slice the chicken into four parts.
3. Cut the garlic into small pieces and add it to the chicken. Add vegetable oil, salt, pepper, and thyme to the chicken. Put the chicken on a tray.
4. Raise the temperature in the oven to 220 degrees C, put the chicken inside, close the oven. Wait 15 minutes.
5. But while you're waiting, start making the sauce. Mix the wine, sugar, and 150 ml of water. Let it boil a little. Add the cherries (along with any juice ^^), pepper and the bay leaves. Boil for 5 minutes or more (it depends on how dense you want it to be).
6. If the 15 minutes have passed already, take the onions, cut them and put them on the tray surrounding the chicken. Reduce the temperature in the oven to 200 degrees C and put the tray back in.
7. Leave it to bake for 20-30 minutes, and after that you're done! Pour the sauce all over and enjoy. :3

Sounds delicious ^^

I'm going to post a few recipes I made up myself:

Breakfast Casserole:

Ingrediants:
Bacon
Sausage
Egg
Cheese

How to make:
Fry Bacon and Sausages in a pan. Scramble some Egg too. Put half the Egg in the  bottom of the casserole dish. Cut each Sausage into 5ths and put the little pieces on the egg. Put the other half of the egg in. Lay strips of Bacon on top so they make a blanket for the whole thing. Grate Cheddar Cheese on top. Cook the casserole. Serve with toast.

Strawberry French Toast:

Ingrediants:
Bread
Egg
Syrup
Strawberry
Cinnamon
Whipped Cream

How to make:
Soak Bread in Egg and fry. Put Syrup, Strawberries, Cinnamon, and Whipped Cream on French Toast.

Steak and Mushroom Lasagna:

Ingredients:
Beef
A can of cream of mushroom soup
Lasagna noodles
Parmesan cheese

How to make:
Grate Cheese. Cook Soup. Cook the Beef, however you like (medium, rare etc) and cut into strips. Then, stack the cooked Cream of Mushroom Soup, Cheese,  Lasagna Noodles and steak in this order: Noodle, Steak, Cheese, Soup, Noodle, Steak, Cheese, Soup, Noodle, Soup, Cheese (Yes there is no steak in top layer). Then cook the lasagna.

Creamy Garlic Potatoes:

Ingredients:
Creamy garlic sauce
Potatoes
Chives
Onion

How to make:
Cut the Potato into quarters, cook, and lay in the bottom of a casserole dish. Then, put cooked Creamy Garlic Sauce on top. Chop Chives and Onion into small pieces and put it on top.

All made up from Scratch by me :3

I have a knack at making up recipes. I will show them four at a time.

Actually, it's really unhealthy to be a vegan. My dad was one for a year for health reasons, but his nutritionist told him he needed to stop being a vegan and eat meat and stuff because he wasn't getting enough nutrients. Lance Armstrong goes to the same nutritionist, so I'd tend to trust the nutritionist's advice.

No- I really want to read it. I guess you could post a project with an audio file of you saying it, though...

roll  That's not what I mean  tongue

Anyways, here it is simplified:

Ingredients:
Cheese (I prefer shredded colby jack)
1 1/2 tsp water (don't measure, use your eyes)
Bread (Any type)
Butter

1. Heat your pan to 250-300 degrees. Not too high or you will burn it, make sure to butter it.
2. Spread butter on both pieces of bread.
3. Add the water to the cheese (It makes it melty in the sandwich)
4. Assemble with the buttered bread sides facing up and cook until golden brown on each side.
5. Enjoy!
