What are community moderators, and what do they do? How do you become one?

Re: Community Moderators

Well, a Community Moderator does a lot of things, really  big_smile  Here's some of what we do:

-Opening/Closing topics for people. If someone reports that they want a topic opening or closing, we'll do it for them.

-Cleaning up spam. If we see spam, we get it out of the way, to keep the forums clean and tidy.

-Answering questions. Just to be helpful  big_smile

-Dealing with arguments and trolling. Not my favourite part of the job  sad  It's sometimes quite hard to think of how to stop an argument, while being respectful.

-Greeting new members. It gives the community a nice, friendly atmosphere, I think  smile

-Giving positive, friendly feedback. This could be on projects, galleries, suggestions - anything really  big_smile

-Flagging mean/inappropriate things on the main website.

There's a lot more, but I can't remember it now...

To become a community mod, you can take part in the mod elections that happen every four months (take a look in the "Announcements" forum to see some threads behind the previous one  wink  ) From memory, a mod must have been active for six months on the website, and have been quite well-behaved and helpful for that time.  smile

It's true, though - I started out helping people, and you were one of the others who was always helpful... moreso than myself... And I'm a competitive person  tongue

I'll say. I always go to respond to a new thread, post my reply, and...dang! Outposted again.  tongue

Re: Community Moderators

If you run and win a community moderator election (held thrice a year), you become a moderator for at least one term. I think there was something where moderators could go for another term without need for reelection, but I'm not sure.  hmm

If I were you I'd ignore this post and wait for a moderator to come. ^^

Oh, and if you have more questions: This thread is specially designed for questions of this topic.  smile

EDIT: Outposted by markyparky56.

1. The elections will be announced around September, in the Announcements forum. I don't know what the title will be/when it is exactly, but watch that space for updates ^^

2.There'll be a place to submit speeches - simply write a speech about why you want to be a moderator/why you think you'd be a good moderator, and submit it to the place that is given  smile

3. Yep, we can - I haven't posted one for a while because I was using all my project making time on the Scratch Olympics, though  smile
