Hi,

My 9yo son is a new scratch user. He was creating a game and accidentally deleted sprite1, whose script had most/all of the game logic in it. He hadn't saved his work at all sad We tried "undelete" from the Edit menu and it brought back sprite14 which he had, I guess, also deleted. We tried undelete repeatedly after that but nothing else came back. Is all lost or is there any chance that there's some other way to get his sprite/script back?

Seems like everyone has to have a catastrophe to learn the "save early, save often" lesson. sigh.

unfortunatly, i don't think that there is a way to bring it back. hopfuly, the scratch team will fix this in the next version of scratch. smile

Nope, sorry, unless you save or un-delete soon after you delete it there is nothing you can do.
It sounds like he deleted it, then carried on doing stuff and deleting things, if you want to get something back you should always undo it right away, and as you said it is also a good idea to save every so often.

I do wish scratch would improve there undo though.
I had spent ages making some colour sensors (A costume for a sprite that needs to be precise), a friend wanted to test it, so I let him, and he gave me it back he had changed and ruined the costume and because scratch does not let you undo costume changes I has to start all over again.

Thanks for the replies. I don't think he realized right away that his sprite was deleted. He didn't intentionally delete it but rather dragged it off the screen which he didn't realize would delete it permanently. So, yes, he did some other stuff before he realized and came to get me to see if I could help him get his sprite back.

Yeah, unless you undelete right away, there's no way to recover a deleted sprite unless you have a backup saved. On the upside, once it happens to you, you usually don't ever forget to save periodically.
