Internet Safety

Have you ever heard the phrase "Remember, stay safe on the internet" and ignore it because you thought would never run into something bad on the internet? Well think again! the internet can be fun and entertaining, but it can be dangerous and frightening too!

Today I will tell you some rules to stay safe at all times.

1) NEVER download music and other files from sites and publishers you don't know.
2)  NEVER click on links you aren't sure about.
3)  NEVER search things up that you don't know, but seem bad. They may lead to bad material.
4)  ALWAYS have monthly or regular check-ups on your computer by scanning for malware and other dangerous programs.
5) DON'T give out personal information like your full name and address.
6) Be careful of the sites you visit.
7) If you run into a site you never want to visit again, download Blocksite to block the unwanted sites (don't worry, the link leads to the mozilla site, and it is safe).
8) NEVER click on YouTube videos made by people you don't trust or know.
9) If you run into a bad site, close it immediately!

Also, make sure to have fun! Fun is important, but only when you are having [i]safe[i] fun.

I made all of the important keywords in bold italics  big_smile ! Remember to follow these rules!

If you have an important rule, post and I will add it here!

Also, if you are not sure about a site (or any other media), go to CommonSenseMedia to check if the media or site is safe!

Re: Internet Safety

Not so much of a rule, but still helpful and pertaining to the topic:

Websites such as Web of Trust and McAfee have site adviser software which can be installed right into the browser, checking most website links and telling you if they are harmless or harmful. It might be a good idea to install one of these when looking through a list of suspicious links (like in a Google search).  smile

Yep, my grandparent's computer has McAfee, and it works really well!

I'm not sure what protection this one has, but whatever it is, it works too.  tongue

Re: Internet Safety

I agree with most of this BUT...searching up something is usually okay when done on a dictionary site, and it's okay to TALK to a "stranger" but never give personal details. Also I disagree with the youtube thing, youtube is a pretty safe website in general. A rule of thumb when using the internet, is use your common sense. If you do that, probably nothing bad will happen.

Re: Internet Safety

Also add: Google chrome is a great and safe browser to use. IT has a javascript alert preventer, so when you go  to a page where it asks you to click through a bunch of alert boxes, just click it once, and Chrome has teh option to disable it.
Click that in google chrome to find out.  smile  http:*/ IN GOOGLE CHROME.

Uh... I'm a stranger. We're all strangers. It's impossible not to talk to any strangers on the internet (unless you wanna chat it up with your mom about hetalia)

"5)  DON'T talk to strangers on the internet (they could be adults and other people in disguise)."

Ok then. Everybody should stop being on the forums and stay completely quiet.

Seriously, this is a pointless rule. Why are you saying that if somebody is older than you, you shouldn't talk to them, the personal information thing is enough.

Find someone post count. Click posts under username. Find number of pages. Times that by 40 for min and 60 for max and you have a rough estimate of post count.

Re: Internet Safety

Let's go through why this isn't a perfect guide...
5)  DON'T talk to strangers on the internet (they could be adults and other people in disguise).
6) DON'T give out personal information like your full name and address.
7) Be careful of the sites you visit.
8) If you run into a site you never want to visit again, download Blocksite to block the unwanted sites (don't worry, the link leads to the mozilla site, and it is safe).
9) NEVER click on YouTube videos made by people you don't trust or know.
10) If you run into a bad site, close it immediately!

1. Ok, that makes sense.
2. Again, makes sense.
3. What "seems bad", what if you're confused about a number? Is 13 bad?
4. Mmkay, that makes sense.
5. We're all strangers here (mainly).
6. Yup.
7. What about scratch?
8. hmmm.... I guess, but this has nothing to do with safety.
9. Person 1: Help! I can't set up a SMP server!
Person 2: Here's a video tutorial on how to set up a SMP server!
So... Ya can't click on that link? Even if you checked the url to see that it's youtube?
10. That's just common sense, but again, what's bad?

Yeah..... pretty much the worst thing that can happen on YT is Screamers or Rickroll.
