What is a trojan?

I know it's a virus, but what do they do?

I think it steals information...

Why do you ask? Is someone trying to give you a trojan?

Re: What is a trojan?

A Trojan deceptively looks like an innocent executable program. In actuality, it causes you computer to be more vulnerable by allowing for unauthorized access to the computer (the vulnerability depends on what the Trojan is designed to do).

Oh no. Well, we haven't opened or downloaded anything in a long time.

I wonder how we got them.

Well, my dad isn't home and I don't know what to do! My virus protection program says they are quarantined.

Maybe a website that you visited recently? There's more than one way to get a Trojan onto the computer.

That's actually good, it mean the protection program blocked them from doing any more damage.  smile

Yep. Don't download mp3s from sites, because they may contain harmful trojans and viruses.

I visited scratch and AOL. And my sister visited fantage, club penguin, and webkins, and I have no record of anything else. I'm actually very scared now!

Phew. I'm a little better after reading that quarantined means they won't do any more damage, and then we can delete them.

I'm not very sure, but we had a virus that might have something to do with the problem. It was a fake antivirus program, and it was really bad.

Those are tricky  hmm ...

Perhaps ONLY use a antivirus program from a major company you trust. Windows comes with one.

Well, just because an Mp3 might have a virus on it, doesn't mean you can't download it. You just have to be cautious...

Re: What is a trojan?

Yes, a Trojan is disguised as a normal program, but is really a virus.

The reason it's called a Trojan is because, a long, long time ago, the Trojan army tricked their enemy into believing they had retreated, and made a giant wooden horse that the enemy thought was a gift for winning the war. It turns out, that horse was full of Trojan soldiers, who came out that night to really finish the war.

Re: What is a trojan?

Trojans don't usually steal password information, they usually just lay dormant in your system, then download the keyloggers to do that.
Although, some just get your private server information and sell it to ad companies, who, in turn, spam your every mouse click

But just because it says windows doesn't mean it really is windows. One virus we got claimed to be a Windows XP security center, but it was really a virus.

Re: What is a trojan?

Ugh, I hate Trojans. I go on Youtube and Bulbapedia (Bulbapedia is a online Pokemon encyclopedia created by the same company who made Wikipedia), and I don't want Trojan companies to find out I like Lucario and Riolu! I hope the Trojan you got isn't like that?

Sorry, I got a little melodramatic there. That's the usual me  tongue

Who taught you history. The Greeks made the wooden horse and filled it up with soldiers. They gave it to the Trojan who took in inside and at night the Greeks came out and killed the Trojans.

Re: What is a trojan?

Once my computer said it had viruses, but it was really just a joke the website made. Quite scary, though I believe you might have some real trojans.

Yeah, those fake antivirus programs are the worst kind because you think they'll protect you then they turn you computer into a zombie or a reflector.

If you don't know what those are, the hacker hacks into computers, turning them into zombies. The zombies then send spam to the reflectors, which then reflect it onto a target.

Back. For now. Maybe.
