Did anybody get the Indiana Jones reference in the title?
So... There is a group of people, changing twice a ear, who can rate projects. The top-rated projects of the week end up on a front page section. Sorta like Curating, but at the same time, very different. The Raters all rate differant kinds of projects. If they give a project one star, they have to write why they did that. If they give a project 5 starts, they have to write why they did that, too! This would give Scratchers the ability to get great feedback about their projects and be noticed by the community.
There would be an election for these project sections: Games, Animations, Advanced Programming, etc.
You could nominate one of your projects for review from the raters, and they would give it a rating and write about why they like your project or why they didn't like it. The review would come up as a comment, but with a rating next to the author's name.
Comments? Questions? Please post your opinion.

Cool idea. Maybe, "What the raters are giving five stars" section?

Or top rated.
I was also thinking: If the customizable frontpage comes, you should be able to get a 'Top Rated Games' section and a 'Top Rated Animations'.

lol, I get it.
I like the idea, but I think (like the current front page) the ratings would directly correlate to the most viewed and most loved because More Views = More Possibility For Loves = More Chance Of High Rating.

Great thoughts!
Something like this would help worthy project rise to the top of their respective categories.
What categories should we choose? Who chooses categories?
What if a new popular category pops up suddenly? (like 1s1s did...)
What if a voter tags a break for a while?
Why limit to 2 Voters changed twice a year?
(This is basically what I'm suggesting for FaveTags. Except:
Everyone can vote for any project to be featured in any category, anytime.
It is mostly self-moderating, self-managing... the categories grow and shrink in popularity and size to community's interests... anyone can nominate theirs or someone else project to multiple categories by adding tags. "Advanced Programming", "Games"... then people that visit those tag pages in "Recently Tagged X". if many agree, it will show in "top tagged X" in the last day, week, month, year, all-time....
then also tag pages could also be combined to so that you can see projects that rate high in "Advanced Programming" and "Games". Explaining why people voted would not be necessary because it's the consensus of the community and should be obvious why.)

I've always agreed with the FaveTags idea. While I think that FaveTags is a very good idea, I still think mine could be used alongside of favetags.
Voters change 4 times a year, sorry. And there's a main voter and a secondary voter.
New categories? 1s1s would fit in Advanced Projects/programming.

Hmm... people might not be happy if their project gets a low rating There are a few bugs to work out, but this could work

If a noob gets picked to be a 'rater of the lost home page', he/she might rate everything 1 star, everything 5 stars, not rate anything at all, etc. Also, what's the use of rating if it's basically like curating, except the raters get to rate stuff they don't like bad, too.

Well, If their project gets 1 star, then the rater has have to explain why they gave it only one star.
@Sunrise: Well, the Scratch team would choose the Raters.

But still, they choose curators, and there've still been bad curators.

Why 'rate' bad projects, as their job is essentially to only find good projects (just like curators do). This seems to be basically another curator position.

But half a year with a bad/anime rater would be too much.

A quarter.
@Chris: You have a point, but the raters probably wouldn't do that for a couple of reasons. First off, the maker of the project has to ask for their project to be rated. If it's their best project, then, first off, it'll probably be good. And, the raters probably aren't that cold hearted.

This idea is seeming to get better with all the adjustments being made. I hope it gets implemented

I think that's a great idea... But the trouble would be for the entire group to rate the same projects. Maybe everyone would have to vote the projects?
Anyways, I think it's a pretty good idea. Or maybe just the group where the most members give a certain love-it, it ends up on the front page . . .

sounds cool. Oh, and yes I got the Indiana Jones reference

Maybe I'm not being clear.
Here's your text mockup.
Games Rater- 08jackt
Animations Rater- MyRedNeptune
Advanced Project Rater- Rollem
etc.
There would be a tags system, where you could submit one project a week for review. That project would be added to a list where, for example, 08jackt would rate and comment on your game, telling why he liked/didn't like it, etc.
Got it now?

Oh, I see! That makes sense I am still not sure about this idea - there isn't much of a variety for projects to get rated, no? And then the top rated projects... Would the top rated in a category show up, or what. I'm a little confused

The top rated projects under 'games' would be a category you could add to your frontpage, if the customizable frontpage ever comes out.
