The red thing is internal to the ScratchScriptEditorMorph, it shouldn't bother your program unless the blocksBin was corrupted.

Oh... that's good. I wish I'd known that before. XD I think there should be a save shortcut key. That way when you get weird glitches you will be able to save every time.

Re: BYOB 3 - Discussion Thread

@Jens & bharvey

1-Among the plenty interesting examples joined with the Byob distribution, I'm still stuck with the "Toad example".The way to use nested sprites is totally unclear to me even after reading the memo... I see how to detach a nested sprite, but not how to attach it.

2 - I hope to find the opportunity to meet you in Paris next week, but I understand that you will have a very heavy schedule.

3 - In the meantime I can provide you some Byob programs if needed (Helico, Tangram ...).

I had a little trouble figuring that out, too.  The trick is that you drag the picture of the sprite you want to attach from the sprite corral in the lower right corner of the screen to the actual sprite on the stage to which you want to attach it.  This funny asymmetrical notation is used, I think, although Jens should be the one to say for sure, because the other possibilities (stage to stage, corral to corral) already meant something else.

I hope to find the opportunity to meet you in Paris next week

But of course!

In the meantime I can provide you some Byob programs if needed (Helico, Tangram ...).

Sure, send them along.  It'll be a while, though, before we assemble another full distribution.

The funniest thing about this quote is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything of importance, it's too late to stop reading it.

Re: BYOB 3 - Discussion Thread

Yeah, but do you see how the fading gets cut off on the edges? I can't fix that without redoing the entire thing (some 30 minutes of work). And let's face it, I'm too lazy. XD

Re: BYOB 3 - Discussion Thread

What's with the blue background? It's distracting and makes the text a bit difficult to read.

No, actually, Jens and I are (yay, finally!) sitting here next to each other and neither of us can see anything wrong with it!

(Are you called "shadow" because you like shadows on your lettering?  I just thought of that...)

Maybe the precise shade of blue needs work, but (especially for me, since my screen background is set to black) having a different color behind the black lettering makes it more readable.

Yeah... I'm a bit slow, but I also had to create seperate layers and stuff, which took me a bit...

Personally I like the blue background, but yours looks great too nXIII!

Yes, I love shadows on lettering, but to be completely honest with you I picked my standard username when I was 8 and to me it just sounded cool. XD

Re: BYOB 3 - Discussion Thread

The first thing I made on version 3 is the C block, 'make and save music content (name: [something)', you should only put these 3 blocks in the C shape block:
Play sound (sounds)
Wait (number) secs
Stop all sounds
You can put the play note and other blocks, but these are the simplest 3.

On the http://byob.berkeley.edu web site, there are tutorials about using BYOB, in the form of Scratch projects and also in the form of Quicktime videos.  I think you should start by going through those tutorials and trying out the examples shown there.

Then come back here with specific questions and we'll try to answer them!  And welcome aboard.

Looked at tutorial but my question is how to use it for saving and loading files like an RPG game

BYOB3 can't do that. If you really want it, I would use another Scratch mod called Panther.
