You guys do realize that if Namco decides to sue Scratch for the actions encouraged on this topic, Scratch could be shut down right?

They can't do that!
Oh yes they can!
I would strongly advise against any such defiance towards Namco, since they do have the rights, as ridiculous as it may seem...

Whatever happened to Freedom of Speech? We have the right to protest!

Why do you all insist on risking the shut-down of Scratch?

So trying to get a few people to stop something unfair, is fair grounds to have the other company shut down the entire site?
And anyway, Andresmh didn't advise against it, he supported us, saying that we should get proof of why this is under fair use.

This is just my opinion... I'd just try to keep things as minimal as possible okay?
Its not worth the risk.

1: Good luck convincing all 50+ users who signed up.
2: Read the first amendment.

They brought it upon themselves- we all pay.

Let's just see how things turn out, shall we?

We are doing NOTHING to provoke extreme action like you keep warning us about, illusionist.
By protesting the removal of the Pacman project are we in anyway infringing Namco's copyrights?
No. Not at all.
And petitioning one project's removal is not enough to shut down the entire Scratch website!
Worst Case Scenario: All Namco related projects are taken off the site.
Big deal. They were probably going to do it anyway.

This is what I'm talking about-
Protesting is fine, but this might be *slightly* dangerous.

Hey, Wave, did your station broadcast the message yet?

Spoiler Alert: The game's not coming back. But if you make another pac-man game they won't do anything about it. Frankly, Namco can do whatever they feel like, whether we like it or not. I don't think this petition will do anything for a single project.

If Namco does shut us down, don't you think that it will just end up hurting them? I mean, if Namco freaked out about some posts on a forum, and had the whole site shut down, the site that made a FREE program that thousands of educators use to teach their students programming, what do you think will happen to their reputation? Namco, the video game company that shut down a knowledge-based website, that sounds nice.

Namco would never shut down Scratch, mainly because it's pointless, it would cost lots of money, it would give them bad press, and they wouldn't have the proper means to do it (short of buying scratch then shutting it down, but again pointless, costs money, bad press)

By the way, my brother made an account. He is called Spindafromsaturn.

I don't think it makes sense to let fear of reprisals stop people from expressing their views. What seems most important is that views are expressed respectfully.
If you deal with the problem aggressively, and without respect from the other side's opinions / views, you are just likely to bring about some form of reprisal. In other words, flaming is a poor strategy for resolving disagreements.
Check out Andresmh's post above for some constructive ways to address these issues.
