Ehh I somewhat agree with that, but I don't think hell should be censored.
I don't see why they censor *, though. I just think maybe they should keep it as it is, to avoid any problems. My point of view is really hard to explain.

What I have to say about them
1. But every parent has a different view what's inappropriate. We are only using one view (which is everything that could be considered offensive).
2. Yes, there are 5 year old's on Scratch, but not as many as 10-15 year old (who most that I know, can say c**p)
3. Of course. There is no need to use it, but we should be allowed to, if we want to (see above arguments).

Responses to your responses:
1. Yes, every parent has different views. I will not deny that there are many people who are allowed to use those words and worse. BUT, if we don't have any bad words, then both people whose parents have very strict rules AND those who have more lax rules will be able to go on scratch. If we allow bad words, then ONLY those who have more relaxed rules will be allowed to go on scratch.
2.  Let me dig up an old metaphor on the old "Freedom of Speech on Scratch" thread:
It's like this. Imagine that scratch is a playhouse, and inapropriate things are substances you wouldn't want kids to have. You wouldn't want a bottle of the substance open on the counter, even if a few adults hung around in the playhouse, and wanted to have it around. Even if it was covered in warnings to not touch unless you are older than a certain age, you wouldn't want to have it around, because the place is swarming with kids.
Does that clear things up?   smile
3. Unless there is truly a need to use those words, we should not, due to the two reasons above.

Color Pong! Simple but fun.

You keep using the "every parent has a different view what's inappropriate. We are only using one view" argument. Well, yes, because...

Ok, sorry, but the logic to that is so loose that I can't think of a way to directly explain why it's wrong. So here's a parable:

"Once there was a city called Terphitron. In it lived many people. There were three kinds of common deadly viral diseases in Terphitron; Pseudoplasmic Anemia, Eschrosyndrome, and AIDS. Every day, all three would plague the city, unless a ward against it is being placed, and everyone who isn't naturally immune would be infected.

"Regarding natural immunities against these diseases, there were five genetic possibilities. A person could either:
1. Be immune against all of them (85 percent of the population)
2. Be immune against only Pseudoplasmic Anemia (5 percent of the population)
3. Be immune against only AIDS (4 percent of the population)
4. Be immune against Pseudoplasmic Anemia and Eschrosyndrome (5 percent of the population)
5. Or be immune against none of the three. (1 percent of the population)

"The city has an infinite amount of wards, so each day they place all three kinds, to ensure that no one gets any of the diseases.

"But one day, some kids go up to the government and say, 'But only one percent of the population is vulnerable to all three diseases. Since most of the people are immune to all of them, why should we just go with the ones who are vulnerable to all, and place all the wards, since that would only be using the "vulnerable to all" view?'"

Now. Is the kids' argument valid?

Hmm... this seems kind of disorganized. It's helpful to create threads about one issue at a time, so that everyone can follow along. This one seems kind of broad and unfocused. Although I do appreciate that you guys are grappling with these issues (because we grapple with them a lot too).

Here's what you should do.
Keep everything the way it is. It's working out fine. This guy just wants to say * and if he can't then he's trying to get hell blocked.

sanddude wrote:

NOTES: Thanks to Lightnin for encouraging me to make this! U rock, Lightnin! cool
Please keep all discussions respectful and clean, as I do not want this to be closed again.

Here's the Less Strict Rules On Scratch thread!

Here are:

3 Common Arguments That Make A Good Point Against My Point
1. We should keep it to every parents level of satisfaction, not just some.
2. There are 5 year old's on Scratch.
3. There is no need to use H**l and C**p

Now, I think since the forums are more accessible than projects to 5-year-old's, h**l and c**p SHOULD be censored on the forums, but a bit more obviously (I mean instead of [removed] replace it with "c**p").

However, in projects it should be allowed, but with some limits.
The limit's should be:
1. If a mod finds a project with the words, he/she puts a warning in the project notes.
2. If the project is flagged, it is put in the "not for everyone" category.
3. If a user is under 10, or not logged in, not for everyone projects can not be viewed. (And if a user is 10 or over, he/she could have the option to block viewing of not for everyone projects) Of course, someone could lie about there age, but that would be their fault.

However, I think bathroom words SHOULD be allowed, and in no means censored. Because, for EVERYONE I know, you don't talk about at church, the dinner table, or some kind of public place, but otherwise it's fine.

Discuss, and pretty please with sugar on top keep it FRIENDLY!

I agree with everything. There is definetly no need to use the h-word or the c-word (I'm allowed to say the c-word in real life, but not very often) But about the bathroom words thing: They are fine, just as long as they are not used to gross other users out.

I must have missed that post
Of course * is censored
It means 'Oh my [bad word] gosh/golly/god'
And if that is censored, why isn't hell?
That's simple. It's because hell is a mythological place, and that word isn't.
I believe that would fall under the common sense category

I didn't mean '*' (You should've been able to see the word when you quoted). She used * but broke the filter so it would show up, but the word she said was *. "* is censored but not hell?"

Yes this is very weird with asterisks.

No Ace said you don't have to add the ing because it can be in the acronym. You know how those work right?

Although I guess "they were lol" wouldn't sound quite right, but you COULD skip all this mumbo-jumbo and just say "they were laughing"

No, I mean "they were laughing". Usually when a group of people laugh together they don't do it silently.
