What to do about plagiarism

*sigh* i was just recently plagiarized. i'm not mentioning any names, because i don't want to start a fight. I drew the best picture i had ever drawn, it was an art request for my buddy, and that buddy asked someone else to draw the same thing later. They made a gallery for all things about that particular character, INCLUDING the art requests from me and the other person. I looked at the other persons drawing of the character, and it was EXACTLY the same as mine, but recolored! worst of all, they got my buddy to believe they drew it, but luckily i quickly pointed it out to them.  smile  i flagged the plagiarized project after they refused to give credit, and said they drew it, even though it was obvious that it was stolen. THANK YOU SCRATCH TEAM FOR DELETING THAT PROJECT AND SAVING MY ART FROM THIEVES LIKE THEM! Now, this person made a NEW project, copying the SAME PICTURE! but this time, they changed it a bit more. they resized it, so that i couldn't tell by switching through tabs, they erased the arms and drew their own arms, and they gave it their own face. it is obviously stolen, however, because the hood, hair, colors, and pants are exactly the same! plus, you can tell it's resized, because it is all pixley, and we all know that's what scratch does when you resize a picture, and i'm pretty grateful for that, actually, because it was the best proof it had.  wink  I flagged the second one, and i'm still waiting for it to be deleted. They still refuse to give credit, no matter how obvious it is. Now, i have decided i will devote my scratch life to stopping plagiarism! >:3 Here are some tips if you can't tell if something is plagiarized or not:

**TIPS TO TELL IF SOMETHING IS PLAGIARIZED OR NOT**
- Not sure who the copy cat is? Which ever one is most recent, i think it's safe to assume that's the thief.  cool
- When you think someone plagiarized music, it's a bit harder, because just cause it's the same song, it could be from anywhere! Download it and look at the name of the song. If they aren't a match, then i wouldn't accuse them of plagiarism right away, but ask them if they did take it in the comments of their project.  smile
- If it's art you are looking at, open each project in a different tab, make sure each page is scrolled to the top of the page, and switch between tabs to see the change in resemblance, that's what i did, and it was, in fact, exactly the same except for the color.
- Another thing to do with art, is to trace over the drawing with a piece of paper on your computer screen, and then put it on top of the drawing you think it's copied from and see if it's the same.
- If you think something is just recolored, look for little dots of the original color. that is what happens when you try to fill something colored on a program like paint.net with scratch.
-If something looks the same, but bigger, if it isn't all pixley, then it probably wasn't plagiarized, if it is, flag.

**TIPS FOR WHAT TO DO ONCE YOU KNOW IT IS PLAGIARIZED**
- Once you are 99.9% sure it's plagiarized, ask them to give credit. If they say "no! i drew this myself!" or "no. i don't care about credit." then, you should flag it, but if they say "oh, i'm sorry, i forgot! thanks for reminding me!" don't flag them. :3
- If they refuse to admit it, tell them all the proof that you found until they have nowhere to run anymore! Mwahahaha! >:3
- If they say sorry, don't flag them. Only if they say sorry, but STILL don't give credit, then flag them.  smile
- Tell them to give credit in a nice way.  smile
- If they STILL refuse to give credit, just forget it. make an apology project saying you are sorry for yelling at them to give credit, and, hopefully, they will then say sorry too, and give you credit. when you are mean to them, they are mean to you, when you are nice to them, they are nice to you!  big_smile  like Paddle2See's siggy says, "Treat others as you would like to be treated!  big_smile "

I HOPE THIS HELPS! AND REPORT TO THE CCC GALLERY IF YOU SEE ANY PLAGIARISM!   wink

Re: What to do about plagiarism

I think this is the best way...

1. Ask them to give credit or remove the project
2. Ask them again
3. Ask them again and report
4. Post meaningful messages on their projects
5. Add them to your ignore list
6. Post more meaningful messages and flag again
7. Ignore again

Scratch User Dictonary definition of ThePCKid:

ThePCKid (thuh-PEE-see-kid) n. A Scratch user whom is the king of posting Cool Story Bro pics.

LOL, I made that definition up XD

Now back on topic:
I'm totally against plagierism. A user (Not giving out any names) remixed my project "Take me out with more options!" and he never changed the sprite and never gave me any credit. I flagged it, but it never got deleted.

AND REPORT TO THE CCC GALLERY IF YOU SEE ANY PLAGIARISM!   wink

Wow, i've never been plagerized before.

That's cause you haven't made any projects! XD

Ditto to that! A jerk once stole my story, then showed people, and took ALL the credit! After showing them that it was mine and taking it back, I got revenge. Ha ha....

Wasn't art already there anyway? Gosh.

But seriously game plagiarism is like saying you created Mario but had the idea months after the original was released.
