Can a sprite be converted into an image?
And I have a few more questions
If I import a background image into scratch that's larger then the scratch screen, will it crop or stretch to fit?

yes, right click the costume you want as and image and click 'export this costume' and it will save it as a .gif for you.

yes, it shrinks to fit in place.

Ah, I see. Will the quality also be horribly ruined if it's way bigger then the screen?
Also, that costume exporting turns it into a .sprite file for me
I haven't really looked at them, so it may or may not be usable anywhere besides Scratch

It should work fine... Just make sure you're exporting the costume (right-click the costume and select "export") and it should export as a GIF.

So, that would means I would have to do each one individually.

As for backgrounds, I'd recommend using an external image editor to crop and resize your background to your liking and to the Scratch window's exact resolution. That way, Scratch won't mess with the image unless you're really unlucky. And you should probably save the background as a bitmap (.bmp) file so you don't have to worry about the image getting compressed before you add it to the project.

Ah, yes, good point. Keep in mind that the Scratch stage size is exactly 360x480 when doing this

It doesn't scale it to fit, it shrinks it down proportionately, most of the time ruining the image entirely.

Every time I work on a background outside of Scratch, I have to ask my brother the dimensions
Is there an easier way to remember this?

There is just the normal memory techniques really.
There is also the fact that 360 is a full circle.
And the fact there is 172800 pixels.
You could also just look at the stage costume size, under the name it says how big it is.

What I do is I move the mouse of the top-right corner of the stage, round the x and y position of the mouse to the nearest 10 (to make sure it's exactly in the corner), and multiply by two.
It's flawless.

To recall the dimensions click on the Stage and look at any costume in the costume list, the dimensions are always there.
And I recommend Irfanview for external image editing. It is GREAT at resizing, easy to use, and free!

These last 3 are all good answers, but he said when working on a background outside of the Scratch Program
It's 3 down and 4 across, both multiplied by 120. Remember 120 as the magic number, and 4 by 3 as the other magic numbers to multiply it by.

I keep a .rtf (text) file on my desktop with basic Scratch nfo (like those dimensions) in it. As I work on new projects, I add specific information about each one to the bottom of the file.
