Now back to the flagging. Flagging should stay on the Scratch website, no matter if a user likes it or not (In sanddude's case, he/she doesn't like it). We should keep the flagging process going, but with a few changes. Users should be notifyed if they got a project flagged. That's all I have to say on this topic- for now, that is!  wink

I saw this!  sad  And users do get notified when a project of there's gets flagged. Two of my projects have gotten flagged, one was not even offensive, and on the other I clearly put "This is not the clean version" in the project notes. I used to support the flagging, but now I just think it's a limitation of what mature people can see to what the immature people can see.

BTW, I'm obviously a he not a he/she because "dude" is in my name.

Saying that it's inappropriate doesn't make it any different. It's still inappropriate. If you want to make something bad, keep it to yourself and don't post it here. Or learn to use another language and post it on your own site.

I hope you realize that Scratch is meant for kids and should be safe for them. Without any rules, Scratch would be full of bloody violance, cussing, p0rn, etc., and it would likely be a site that parents make their kids stay away from.

I don't think I used the P word in a bad way, so I changed it. If I did, go ahead and remove it.

It's not the P word, just something you don't want to say.

When you flag a project as inappropriate, you are now asked to type in a reason.

Your reason can be very brief. Even very short explanations can help us in evaluating whether to delete the project.

Your reasons are sent only to the MIT Scratch team, and they will not be viewed by anyone outside the team. In particular, the reasons will not be viewed by the creator of the project.

Please note that projects are automatically deleted when the number of flags passes a certain threshold. This automatic process is useful to prevent inappropriate projects being on the site for long periods of time while the Scratch team is not checking emails (for example, late at night). The Scratch team can later restore an automatically-deleted project if it finds that the project is appropriate for the site.

More work needs to be done on the flagging system, but we believe that this is a step forward.

We would like to thank AngelEyra for implementing this new feature.

I think that the reasons should be viewable to the creator of the project. Because if it's not (s)he might not know why it's inappropriate.

Re: When flagging a project as inappropriate

Alright, I have a change of opinion. Flagging isn't terrible but it's much too strict.

For bad words we shouldn't censor words like c**p, h*ll, saying the lords name in vain, or the stupid/dumb/idiot type words, which not all parents would allow in their household but much much more than a handful of parents would be okay with. We should only censor the words that most parents wouldn't allow. If we don't do this, then we would only view inappropriate by some people's point of view. But if we do my idea than we would censor based on most people's point of view. Understand?

And also think about this. Often, blood is nothing more than red stuff created in the paint editor. Maybe even usually. So yeah NO BIGGIE! Get what I'm saying?

Re: When flagging a project as inappropriate

Words like the C word and H word should be flagged. The other words are OK with me though.

Blood should be flagged. If you think about it that way, the F word is nothing more than a couple letters put together.

Hey lasc12, why don't you try contacting the Scratch Team about that? We generally discourage blaming or talking about certain users in a negative way on the forums, as a public place, and reporting them is no different. Contacting the Scratch Team avoids this problem and they'll find that post faster  smile

Re: When flagging a project as inappropriate

I came across this project that deals with some bad words.

[link removed by moderator]

Hopefully it'll be flagged other than me soon.

[Moderator Edit: Please don't use the forums to publicly report projects that you feel are inappropriate; we want to avoid other people from seeing the bad content. Simply just flag them down instead, and a Scratch Team member will be able to review the project. Scratch On!]

I have that in my Super-Puter Series, and it is a very good way to do it.

Well, you can't really delete it from forum posts unless you are a mod... do you mean comments on the website?  If so, then you should flag it (which will also delete it). That sends us a message so we can check that accounts other comments, and consider sending them a notification to stop spamming.

Actually, in that project MODERATOR means the members of the Scratch Team who help moderate the main website, not the community moderators. Sorry, we made that project before the community moderator program was founded.

Re: When flagging a project as inappropriate

This happened to me... A scratcher called [removed by Moderator] has copied two of my projects and added them to his own list without changing them, and it seems, after I had a look at what other projects he had, that he has also copied many other scratcher's projects. I commented, and he said he would change them, but so far, no changes.

[Note from Moderator - please don't accuse other Scratchers by name in the forums.  Instead, please use the Flag feature on the project or the Contact Us form at the bottom of every page.  This will let the Scratch Team know privately what your concern is so they can take a look at it.]

Oh sorry I didn't know...
