I don't think it was fair that Namco did this; it's for educational use, and there are also plenty of other Scratch projects that are based on other games created by large companies.

Wow. Just wow.
Shouldn't Namco have better things to do than this anyway?

Why are you guys getting angry about this? Just let the kid sue. He'd be happier rich and disgraced.

Or you could try getting around the copyright law [that has lost its rationale. Boo!] by renaming it "Scratch-Man" and making the the chomping circular character orange with ears and changing all the ghosts into Gobos.

That would be cool, but it wouldn't be the same... ^_^
Maybe if we got permission from Namco...? I doubt they'd let us though.![]()
You don't need permission. Post it.
There are hundreds of pacman projects in scratch.

This is really depressing. I also think that scratch has aliscense to allow any user to use copyrights

It does. I'm just wondering, but does anyone besides me read all of the posts in a topic before posting? Ah, who am I kidding, I only do this half the time.

[removed]. I had to let that out. Sorry.
Namco, there are many more sites that have copies of your games. Take down those also if they're not using the "fair use" whatchamacallit.
Also, did you know that "whatchamacallit" is a real US English word?

C'mon. Namco has plenty of lawyers and money to pour into a lawsuit like that. Even if they lost, they could drag it out for years. You were kidding, right?
Offline
Of course not. Let them drag it out then.

What a horrible situation. I'd hoped this would never happen. I feel bad for 124scratch's hard work getting interfered with Namco's thoughts on this project. What are the Scratch Team's reactions? Have they posted anything about the issue?
Offline
Why would a Namco be on a kids programming website anyway? I mean, they're a hugh company, and this is just a little website that one only stumbles upon if one googles 'scratch.' And who would go to google just to type that in?

PCKid made a thread about the word.

My opinion, hoax of the month. Why would Namco single out just this project? This user has multiple sub-par PacMan projects, similar projects are all over Scratch, all over the internet (Google PacMan download) not to mention the freely available Mame type emulator roms which are exact copies of the original game.
Why would the letter from Namco have the author's name removed?
Namco has not been around this long by making dumb decisions. And singling out this needle in a haystack would prove to be an extremely suicidal marketing tactic. Would you risk turning away 10s or 100s of thousands of potential customers in order to stop a Scratch project?
If Namco wanted to stop Scratch PacMan projects, they would demand that Scratch remove them all, in addition to all other games derived from Namco products. Mark another one down for the trolls, they scored big-time with this one.

ENOUGH! Change the Sprite Character Looks and Name it Cap-Man!

It's stupid... if they care about that one project they might as well get all the others removed.
And then what about all those other imitations for games such as Space Invaders?
Meh - 124scratch should just reupload his project no matter what happens.

Some people are saying that it's a hoax because of the letter. Would be helpful to see the actual letter.

I commented on the techdirt article yesterday.

If 124scratch sues, I'm betting 1000000000000000 to 1 he wins.

Maybe it was removed so that outraged kids could not send the person hatemail, worsening our case. It would be easy to get contact info for someone who is allegedly a higher up in the company.

Of course. He has no case. This isn't illegal (at least I don't think it is)
