Where did you see "amp"?
Sometimes it's an abbreviation (a short form) for "Ampersand" which is this funny symbol &.
It's also an abbreviation for "Ampere", which is a measurement of electrical current.
It's also an abbreviation for "Amplifier", a device used by musicians to make their music louder.
...and that's all I can think of off the top of my head!

& is the HTML code for & because they seem to think that letting you put a "real" & in things is harmful. So they replace it with a "fake" &, or & which, when viewed, turns into &. For some reason, the Scratch website has a bug which makes all &s still look like amp;s, but for some reason when you change a project description something happens which doesn't let you put a real & in, and so when it tries changing it to & it won't let itself put the & in the & because it's supposed to replace it with itself. Thus, it turns out as amp; and won't work because you need the & at the beginning.
PS if I'm confusing you, don't worry. I'm kind of confusing myself.

I'd say! it is confusing. Scratch is SOOOOO full of bugs. No other sites have this much, so why Scratch?

You do realize this topic hasn't been posted in for nearly 3 years, right?
If you want to report a bug, you should start your own topic about it. That makes it much easier for them to debug the program.
I'm taking a break from Scratch until 2.0 comes out. Any messages sent between then and now probably won't be read - sorry.
