Sure, hide them - it would be great! The problem is (the third time I've said this ) (at least in my opinion) that a post count... is a bit fun to observe. I treat mine like a plant and watch it go. But still... it would be worth it, hiding them - bye bye to all the post count chat and effort.
Does this suggestion apply to the TBG too, though?Yeah, I know what you mean - but it would be for the better of you
I suppose this suggestion also applies to the TBG.
The TBG too?
There's no problem there!
Just a bit of *cough* friendly competition...
Agh, this post is so biased - I ADMIT IT I CARE ABOUT IT THERE
A few more days and I hit 10000

If we just enforce the rules about bragging about post counts more we won't need to remove them. How about a 1 day ban for anyone who mentions their post counts two times, and it transforms into a week, into a year, etc.

But of course if Miscellaneous is gone, so will be about 60% of the active community.

I know what you mean, but that really wouldn't make sense much. Pretty harsh. Though removing post counts, will mean that there's no reason for anybody *to* talk about post counts. It's allowed, but it won't help them

Yes, but then people will be more encouraged to post in the other forums and help others , rather than pulled away from the main forums, and attracted to the miscellaneous forums .

It took my a while to read through all this, but when I finally finished I was surprised by the suggestions! You're thinking about this the wrong way. Don't just display one factor of a user's experience, factor in them all!
What if the date a user registered, the last time they posted, and their post frequency were all factored in to create a rank for them!? Of course, the ranks would have to be pretty general so that they wouldn't provoke competition.
Maybe...
-New Scratcher
-Beginning Scratcher
-Scratcher
-Frequent Poster
Those are four simple ranks that would give a good indication (provided the elements above are taken into consideration) of a Scratcher's reliability. Questions? Comments?

Funny, I emailed the Scratch Team suggesting this two days ago, and now everyone's talking about it.
EDIT: Backwards 1337 posts.

That's just because lots of people only use the Scratch Forums for Miscellaneous.

It was (partly) a joke... sorry, I forgot to put the Biased Joke tags in my post.

Jonathanpb, you sound rather a bit too excessive there

Not too totally sure if killing of 'Miscellaneous' is a 100% good idea.
While yes, 'Miscellaneous' has been a bit of a trouble spot in the forums and a concern for Community Moderators and the Scratch Team, it also, in a sense, has been a place of bonding within the Scratch community, where Scratchers can share their ideas in other subjects - one concern that the Scratch Team has in "killing it off" is that it makes it harder for the community to bond. Other concerns is that removing "Miscellaneous" will not eliminate problems on the forums, only spread them to other parts of the website. It's very likely that closing 'Miscellaneous' may have the opposite effect of what is desired.
Just remember: a community works when everyone can work together and listen to each other rather than tear each other down. If everyone learns to cooperate each other and respect each other and work towards a greater community, then 'Miscellaneous' will thrive in a good and positive manner. The power of remarkable change is in all of our hands.

Nice speech
How about this recent wave of spam? What steps will the scratch team take to prevent another travesty like this?

Things have been getting pretty rowdy in here recently. Please see this post for more on the recent wave of "fad" postings.

All right, that makes sense. So, anyone involved gets blocked for a few days?

Because that's been suggested before and people generally disagreed with it. Let me see if I can find one of the topics for you.

A several day block for following a trend in the Misc forum seems a bit unfair. They don't mean any harm.

But they are causing harm. It's like if I ran over a baby with my car because I didn't see it. Okay, bad example.

That topic doesn't have anything to do with my suggestion. Did you even read it?
It says to factor in SEVERAL elements about a Scratcher's productivity to create, good, general ranks that would not provoke competition.
Once again:

Yeah, I partially agree, but people might want to post more to get up to a higher rank. It would probably not be as bad as things are now though.
