If you upload a project with the same name as one that is on the website already, the new project will replace the old.

No, they will have a [x] added to the end of the title, and x is the number of projects attempted to be made with that name before.

I just tried that (twice!) and it didn't work. What am I doing wrong?

No. The project is replaced only when it's uploaded by the same user.

What error do you get? Make sure you are using the correct username and password.

ive also had that problem recently. i have had it work successfully in the past but since you introduced the thing that says if a project is a modification it has just created a new project with the same name.

I cannot replicate the problem you report bigB. I was able to replace my project titled "testing" with a new one. What project did you try to upload that didn't do it? Are you sure the name you used is the exact same name as the one you wanted to replace? What is the name? Thanks for reporting bugs!

ive just tried again and it created a new project again rather than updateing. i am certain that it is spelt the same way both times. i think the problem could be that it is a modification of someone elses project. is that a likely reason?

oh you know, I think it's because of the apostrophe ('). Try not using apostrophe's. Sorry, we should fix this

I want to update one of my projects with a different name. Is that possible, or do I just have to delete it? And is there anyway to organize my projects? I bet there is. Jeez! I've got so many questions!

whoa.

Only the original submitter (and the scratch team, with a lot of effort) can change stuff on the web site. No one else can change your stuff.

How the heck can I try it without the apostrophes if the original does have apostrophes? Don't they have to be exactly the same? I tried it and it didn't work. A month later(just now) I tried it again. Help!

Are you referring to your project titled:
Gobo's Adventure
?
If so, just go to the project page:
http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/kittyscratchpost/19641
and click on the title and it will let you edit it.
Remove the apostrophe and you can reupload a new version of the same project using the same name.
Sorry for the bug, I haven't had a chance to fix it.

Well, there have been a lot of unanswered questions in this thread... so maybe I'll help out.

To clarify, this is not true. You won't have anything appended (add to the end of) your title. (URL's have your username in them, so the system is never confused about that.)

A member of the Scratch team.
This is, in a way, not true either. First of all, ScratchR (Not sCRATCHR) is the "software" that this website runs on... sort of like the framework. In the case of andresmh, he's the lead... um... leader of the group that works on ScratchR. So that's why it's there.

A project (here in this thread) is just a scratch program. Specifically, we're talking about shared scratch programs.
