First off I want to say thanks all of you who made panther(can't wait for next release). And second of all I want to tell you about hacking Panther. What I will tell you really isn't hacking panther.(because panther comes with a source code file). for those in windows(i dont know if this happens in apple) when you log into panther for the first time, it automatically puts a panther.ini file on your desktop. If you examine it, it gives you many options.
[Global] DeferUpdate=1 ShowConsole=0 DynamicConsole=1 ReduceCPUUsage=1 ReduceCPUInBackground=0 3ButtonMouse=0 1ButtonMouse=0 UseDirectSound=1 PriorityBoost=1 B3DXUsesOpenGL=0 CaseSensitiveFileMode=0
0 stands for no, 1 stands for yes(i think)
so as you see there is many things you can turn on, and off.
The way i used this is that i tried to write contents from a text file(converted from a jpeg picture) into a list. This (of course) crashed panther and all of a sudden a white box appeared at the bottom of the screen. When i logged back into panther(after restarting the computer) the white box was still there. so I went into the panther.ini file and the
SHOW CONSOLE=0
was set to
SHOW CONSOLE=1
so i changed the 1 to a 0. I hope this was helpfull!
