To add too the growing debate on which language Scratch should be programmed in, I have just been looking at some HTML 5 projects, and they seem to have the quality that Scratch requires. So, I think that (Probably not for Scratch 2.0) there should be a version of Scratch made in HTML and Javascript. The best thing about this is that Then Scratch would be able to be used on mobile devices, including the iPhone/iPad. Even better, you could have a switch on the top of the screen that would allow people to switch between normal and mobile view.
The only problem I see with this is that HTML is a lot different than any other programming language, so it would take some time. It's worth it though!

I can't say anything, but I can tell you there has been a Scratch-like environment created in JavaScript and HTML 5. It's actually pretty neat
HTML 5 coupled with JavaScript is a whole lot faster than Flash, and I'd like to think that Scratch 3.0 will be programmed in HTML and JavaScript. Things may happen! It's just that, at the moment, HTML 5 is an incredulously new technology - Internet Explorer doesn't even support it yet! So don't be expecting it to happen in the near future, but I'd keep an eye out for it

That's weird, the iPhone supports it, and it's been around a LOT longer than IE 8.

Well, most major web browsers just started supporting it. HTML5 has been around for long, but it's really fairly new in the consumer market. HTML4, however, has been supported for years - the internet wouldn't work without it.

no HTML = no Internet = .
I mostly suggested this because I think it would be great to have Scratch on any of apple's iDevices.

Exellent idea! If scratch was online, it might be slow though.

Actually, the next version of Scratch will be online, but it'll be written in Flash, not HTML. There'll still be a downloadable version, though.
