Testing faster site for Scratchers outside the US?

Hi Scratchers,

Are you outside the United States? If so, try testing this URL http://eu.scratch.mit.edu/ and let us know if it is faster than scratch.mit.edu.

This is the exact same website, the only difference is that the caching engine is hosted in a server in Europe.

Thanks!

Re: Testing faster site for Scratchers outside the US?

Hmm... I'm in Britain, but it just keeps telling me that "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"  hmm

EDIT: Firefox won't display the page for me, either...  hmm

I'm in canada, and the pages display looks about the same... And the load time too. If it's in europe, the US one is probably faster.  tongue

Re: Testing faster site for Scratchers outside the US?

Got it working now - I copy-pasted a space with the URL by accident before... (Oops!)

It seems a little slower to me - although that may just be my internet connection  smile

My internet connection just sped up, and it's working faster for me than "scratch.mit.edu", now  big_smile

Huh? It won't let me edit my post from the European server...

I joined the european server and it was way slower then before, then I re entered it, and got a 404 message from my ISP

Re: Testing faster site for Scratchers outside the US?

Hmm. I logged in on both websites, looking on the front page, and compared, and because of course I'm in the U.S., scratch.mit.edu was faster than eu.scratch.mit.edu. But it might be different for people in europe. But I don't know  hmm .

Re: Testing faster site for Scratchers outside the US?

It's difficult to say, but I doubt it's faster. It might even be slower (I'm in Belgium).

I could do a test to see how long 50 pageloads take  big_smile  big_smile

Re: Testing faster site for Scratchers outside the US?

I'm in the Uk, and it loads slightly faster for me than the normal site  smile , but only by about a second or less for projects and there's not much difference on the homepage/user pages etc:.

Re: Testing faster site for Scratchers outside the US?

I'm from New Zealand (about as far from Europe as you can get  tongue ) - so I'll stick with the original; it's closer.  big_smile

I tried to get to the Europe version, but Chrome says it doesn't exist...

EDIT: Firefox, Internet Explorer and Safari also say that it doesn't exist...  hmm

Re: Testing faster site for Scratchers outside the US?

I did a ping test. I am located in Australia

eu.scratch.mit.edu ping 426ms
scratch.mit.edu ping 334ms

Normal scratch website is way faster for me. About 90ms

Find someone post count. Click posts under username. Find number of pages. Times that by 40 for min and 60 for max and you have a rough estimate of post count.

Re: Testing faster site for Scratchers outside the US?

Thanks to everyone for trying out. We are trying to get data points whether this is something we ought to do. We'd go with a CDN but that costs lots of money :-) so we are trying to figure out if there is a cheaper way to bring higher performance to non-US based folks.
