Scratch titles/statuses

I think there should be many ranks on the forum other than new member and scratcher, i know it could be only an idea but i think something like this:
Posts     Titles/statuses
1-10 New scratcher
10-50 Basic Scratcher
50-100 Semi-Basic scratcher
100-250 semi experienced scratcher
250-500 Experienced scratcher
500-1000 Semi expert
1000-2000 almost Expert (not a good name)
2000-3000 Expert Scratcher
3000+ Ultimate Scratcher

Moderators decision:
Community moderator
Basic programmer
Banned
Advanced squeak programmer
Advanced Scratch programmer
Advanced Mesh programmer
Helpful Scratcher
Ultimate Scratcher

Make your own  titles but these are just guidelines and ideas!
What do u think of the titles system

Re: Scratch titles/statuses

No to the first set because people would just spam more than they already do...

As for the second one, some of those are good, but the advanced ones should not be allowed. I think the titles should be easy for anyone to unlock.

Hi, I am Archmage coder extraordinaire. I do Scratch, pascal, java, php, html, AS2 and AS3. Leave me a message if you want coding advice. Also check out my personal website, lots of good stuff about web development, Flash, and Scratch (v1 and v2) !

Re: Scratch titles/statuses

I kinda agree with Archmage here.

Also, I don't think it's fair to hand out titles such as "Ultimate Scratcher" and "Basic Scratcher" on the Scratch forums. Were all pretty even here, and "Basic Scratchers" may feel the need to post more which leads to Spam.., except from the moderators/Scratch Team and New Scratchers. But those ranks exist for the obvious reasons  smile

Re: Scratch titles/statuses

This was suggested before - and I must say, I'm content with the system we already have. The titles may encourage spamming a lot, which is definitely something that should be discouraged. Also, the titles aren't necessarily synonymous with the corresponding post count; for instance, "Ultimate Scratcher" may deal with somebody with a ridiculously high post count, like me, but that doesn't mean they're a good Scratcher - a number of people exclusively use the forums.

Also, I'm a little bit against the moderator-chosen titles - it could make some people feel worse than others who have better titles. Also, bans are generally private, so we don't like to advertise or even tell people that certain people are banned.

I don't agree with these. Your post count does NOT directly correlate to your programming ability. I was a pretty advanced Scratcher when I started using the forums a couple months ago...

I'm not quite sure how that is relevant to ScratchReallyROCKS's post... S/he was referring to post counts, not the day one started using the forums.

I don't mind saying that I am a he.  tongue  And yes. coolstuff is right. I was saying that, just because your post count is high doesn't mean you are a good Programmer.

Re: Scratch titles/statuses

I do agree with archmage about spam, but it could be experimental for a while, these are just guidelines as i said.

As for coolstuff these are just names i gave, i hope scratch team use one or twobut i really hope they change my ideas if this was to be brought in. I did notmean for these to be what what scratch team would name them, but somewhere along these names.

the number of posts don't correspond to the level of scratcher. I didn't touch the forums for the first two years I was on scratch, that didn't mean I was a new scratcher.

names don't really do anything, they aren't accurate to the experience level of a scratcher.

I did it for the Lolz

Re: Scratch titles/statuses

I disagree on this...

dav09 wrote:

Posts     Titles/statuses
1-10 New scratcher New forumer?
10-50 Basic Scratcher Having that amount of posts doesn't mean you're "basic"...
50-100 Semi-Basic scratcher As above...
100-250 semi experienced scratcher As above...
250-500 Experienced scratcher Maybe - unless the posts come from chat.
500-1000 Semi expert Post counts don't show if you're an expert or not.
1000-2000 almost Expert (not a good name) Nah...
2000-3000 Expert Scratcher If anything it should be Expert Forumer.
3000+ Ultimate Scratcher Ultimate Forumer - but people are crossing this limit all the time.

Having a high post count doesn't mean you're a skilled Scratcher; there have been polls over what users do most, forums or projects, and it seemed that to reach a high post count you have to spend your time foruming far more than learning new Scratch.

"Banned" used to be a title, but they decided that it shouldn't be a title.

Retired from Scratch, but just the language itself. Not the forums.

Re: Scratch titles/statuses

Posts are not a measure of how good a scratcher you are or even how helpful your posts are, they are a measure of how much you post.

e.g:

Person1: "lol hi hi guys"
Person2: "Please do not spam the forums"
Person1: "NOOOO"
Person1: "shut up u"
Person3: "Person2 is right, don't just spam the forums to get posts, its annoying"
Person1: "u r annoyin"
Person1: "u cnt tell me wat 2 do, u is 4 ranks below me noob"
Admin: "This thread has no purpose, LOCKS"

Even though person 2, 3 and admin are making more useful posts, person1 has more posts than all of them put together and a higher rank.

I get your point but what about the auto system with posts, and others who are great scratchers but are not on scratch team...

Those are NOT the only ones.

Banned
New Scratcher
Scratcher
Community Moderator
Scratch Team
ScratchR

Banned: A Scratcher, or New Scratcher that got punished for doing something(s) bad. I think that banned users rank a 1-3/10

New Scratcher: A Scratcher that has recently joined the community. Although some people don't like them because they are considered "N00BZ". Community Ranking: 2-5/10

Scratcher: A member of the Scratch community that has been on Scratch for a while. Since the majority of the community interacted with are Scratchers, they have a very wide range of ranking. Community Ranking: 2-8/10

Community Moderator: A Scratcher that moderates and helps the Scratch Community. Community Ranking: 5-8

Scratch Team: A Scratcher that is like a Community Moderator, only better, with more privleges, and duties. Community Ranking: 6-9

ScratchR: A Scratch Team member that helps to develop/has developed a version of Scratch. Community Ranking: 7-10

I listed them from lowest to highest on what you want to be. "You" being a relative term.

"Banned" is no longer a status.

Scratch Team and ScratchR are practically the same thing - they pretty much both develop Scratch.

Interesting idea, but I think it would make Scratchers focus even more on their post count.

I think that the way things are now (At least concerning post count) are fine.
