Don't worry, fellow Elemental Hero, I'll help you out. I'm not quite sure about this, but that looks like the symbol for functions when you're trying to get the range and domain of a parabola. It goes like this
For a normal line, 5>x>8
But if the parabola opens downward, 5 (the symbol) R
Which means 5 belongs to numbers, it's infinity

Yeah, I took this course in the first semester, I don't remember things too well
The symbol just means 'belongs to'
