Re: Lets make a: Send |MESSAGE| to |URL|

Ok that may work.

We have a idea for our MMOG that will allow *ALL* players who have it to play together. I was originaly planing to do this on Panther. As in a website host's the mesh using the Java Player and then everybody connects to that. So everybody plays togehter.

Unfortunaltly I was recently told that the Mesh features of Panther would be disabled online (When in the Java Player). So I looked for a alturnative.

I recently thought about this and come up with a answer. URL reading.

So basicly I write some simple code for a webpage so it has a variable. Lets call it Update.
So 1 second Update is set to 0
and the following second Update is set to 1
and then the following second Update is set to 2
and then the following sencond Update is set to 3

↑That goes on forever

When Update is set to 0 (Finding this by using Panther's HTML reader) it then sends some data to a webpage on its location.
When Update is set to 1 (Also finding this using Panther) it will download the players positon.
When Update is set to 2 it cintinues downloading
When Update is set to 3 the webpage clears itself.

The webpage could be a page on Twitter or FaceBook. This is done to avoid me getting a bill for a server.

This block is also practical for sending Tweets, or Updating Status'. Or even sending e-mails so, I think this is a must!

E-mails are already possible, if you have an MX server...

I can show you!

Re: Lets make a: Send |MESSAGE| to |URL|

| message sender recipients |
message := 'From: Me <my.address@example.invalid>
To: You <your.address@another.invalid>
Subject: Simple Mail from Squeak

This is a test mail'.
sender := 'my.address@example.invalid'.
recipients := #('your.address@another.invalid').
SMTPClient
    deliverMailFrom: sender
    to: recipients
    text: message
    usingServer: 'name.of.mail.server'

Mess with that...

Re: Lets make a: Send |MESSAGE| to |URL|

Just use $_GET, the type of information sent by forms using the "GET" method. The urls look like this:
http://www.your.domain/file.ext?name1=value1&name2=value2 ...
And you can even use a .htaccess file to deny access to the page by anyone except whatever Squeak uses...

Um... no, it would just be "open browser with URL [blah?blah=blah&blah=blah]"

Re: Lets make a: Send |MESSAGE| to |URL|

Hey, johnnydean1. This is a a great idea for a Scratch block - considering the Scratch Team is working on having Scratch 2.0 being able to connect to social media, it would be great! However, this is a suggestion, so it belongs in the suggestion forum. Try to keep that in mind when posting more suggestions  wink

I think they're actually making the block themselves. Methinks it should stay here  smile

Re: Lets make a: Send |MESSAGE| to |URL|

What you really want, imho, is the ability to fill out a form.  So, you read from a URL and the page you get is a form, and then your block says the name of an item to fill in and the text for that item. and then you have another block to push a button on the form given its name as input.  So these blocks would also take as input not a URL but rather the html from the page you've just read.

Actually, this wouldn't work. If this form is for creating an acount on a website, there's usually a picture of some distorted text, where you have to read the text and copy it into a textbox. These are there for the soul purpose of making sure that the acount isn't being created by a program, which can't read distorted text.
