Go to the "looks." Then use this block: <change[ ghost ]effect by( 30, or whatever amount is best.

Be aware that all ghost effect will be undone when the stop sign is clicked, though; it doesn't stay like other features.

Chrischb is right.
If you want to reset the ghost effect, just use the clear graphic effects block, or set it to zero.
I use the ghost effect all of the time... I think that it is indispensable.

Yup - the above posters got it right. It's also useful for hiding sprites, but still having them sense when they're touching the mouse, etc, which they can't do if they're hidden using the "hide" block.
However, you can't have certain areas of your sprite be more transparent than others - that's a feature that has yet to be implemented.

Actually, you can, despite what coolstuff said. Although in essence he's got it right, you can make several sprites, with each sprite being a part of the body, and set them to your prefrence. Remember coolstuff, think out of the box!

I could have thought of that - I was trying to keep it simple

You could also make a sprite that would cover the sprites you want to make obscure, and set the ghost effect on that. (If you had many sprites.) You could also add a pixelate effect to the sprites!
On a side note, shouldn't this be in all about Scratch?
