Paying for Full Scratch Membership
I have an idea to prevent trolling. This one does not require any new rules to be enforced. My idea is simple: People must pay for memberships.
Unsubscribed Members may post, but they have a one post every 3000 seconds rule. They may post 2 projects a month. Also, comments may be posted only every 20 minutes and must be approved by a mod.
Members pay a simple 49¢ per month. They may upload up to 15 projects a month. They may comment once every 5 minutes. Their post rule is 300 seconds.
Silver Members pay a simple 99¢ per month. They may upload up to 25 projects a month. They may comment once every minute. They may post on the forums every 60 seconds.
Gold Members pay $1.99 a month. They may post up to 50 projects a month. They may comment once every 30 seconds. They may post on the forums every 60 seconds.
Platinum Members pay $4.49 a month. They may post unlimited projects. They may post unlimited comments. There is no rule for posting.
Mods and ST gets Platinum free.
Why will this help? Making people pay will cut down on "dumb" projects, making scratch a better (and more popular) place. Also, trolls will not bother anymore, since they may only post once every 30 minutes. No trolls, increased popularity for scratch . . . Why say no to this idea?
Also, I suggest just to promote the higher memberships, every current member except mods, The ST, and those who have been on for a year or more should be reverted to "Unsubscribed Member". ST and Moderator should be equivalent to Platinum. A Year plus is a Gold Membership.

Scratch is supposed to be free and easily available... that's why they use donations instead.

what?!?!?!? most people would LEAVE! you see, lots of people use scratch as a free, and simpler alternative to more advanced programming languages! think, there are 7 year olds using scratch, do you think their parents would PAY so that they cn have fun???? no. they wouldnt.

yes, there would be less trolls, but without trolls noone ever is motivated in the community! if noone is motivated to help the community, scratch cant survive! and relating to your other posts, HOW would you know that there is an imminent troll attack? you say we are in danger of one, but i see few trolls, so how would YOU know that there is an attack coming? are YOU a troll, coming here in disguise to warn us? the scratch community can fend for itself, and if you are one of the trolls, i suggest you run. fast.

This is completely missing the point. Everyone would leave Scratch if they had to pay. I would leave. My friends would leave, and you and the 3 people that agree with you would stay. Donations are the way to go.

Scratch is supposed to be a free, creative community 
. Introducing a paying membership defeats all of that, and a lot of younger users wouldn't be able to use Scratch properly at all.
For now, the current system seams to be working fine anyway. If a Scratcher trolls, they're usually spotted quite quickly and the damage is removed.
In theory, it would work and could potentially be a good idea elsewhere. But I think the disadvantages of making Scratcher's pay, even if they've done nothing largely outweighs the advantages of removing the few occasional troll attacks on Scratch.

A note to those who got a bit "steamed" by this proposal:
Remember, when you respond angrily to a post that is designed to create conflict and disagreement, you are playing directly into the hands of the post's author.
Fighting just leads to more fighting. Do you think that if no one writes to angrily oppose an idea like this one, that we will immediately adopt it?
(In case it's not clear, don't worry - Scratch will stay free.)
