It appears a lot of users have the need to use language on scratch. A user who was banned started an entire forum for scratchers 13 and up who wanted less strict rules. I have something to say to these people: Why do you HAVE to use language not allowed in these forums? How does using words like C*** and H*** and, even real cuss words that I won't say, make a forum post better or more important? Thats right, it doesn't. It just offends younger users. I don't understand why you NEED to "cuss". Think about it.
Although, I must admit I do use some language in real life, I never use it around young, or on scratch. And the Scratch Teens forum isn't apparently doing anything necessarily bad, but I don't like the idea of a forum with aloud cussing to be under scratch's name.

I know, this makes me very unhappy too. I think that there are better words to describe feelings. Also, if you feel some kind of need to use those words, don't just post them in the Scratch Forums. This is a family-friendly site and I'm sure that people like it this way. So why go making it dirty with those words? I'm sorry if I'm kind of overreacting about this, but I'm glad that people other than me understand.

Well, the D and H words were made with religous purposes, but were misused. Calling somebody an A** is the same as saying they are as dumb as a donkey. Just another example of why you could use better words.

Unfortunately I must admit I use some of those words in real life but never around younger people or online

Well, that's not too bad, but it's best to try not to. I tried cursing once in my life but I found it didn't fit me so I stopped using it and went back to using "crud" and "darn"-like words. But that's just me, and to go back on topic I'm going to say that you shouldn't curse online. I literally hear people say "I'm taking this out on the internet." Rules on the internet may be not as tight as in real life, but that doesn't mean you can go marching into some random forum and cuse as much as you can. Especially on a site like this where second-graders can go on. It's outrageous, but we can't really change the internet overnight. Maybe if we make a topic in Show and Tell or something we can see how many people vote for banning cursing. Then we can show the Scratch Team that people want nothing to do with cursuing and that they need to ban cursing from the Forums, or maybe even the site.

Cursing is banned from the forums - that was the purpose of a user creating a forum for older Scratchers, so that they could curse.
And frankly, I don't like that idea - taking a look at the Scratch community on Google Wave, I'm glad we have the censors that have been put it.

I use Potpourri and Jar Breeze. But yeah, why were these words invented?

Why don''t they make a tottaly different forum that is not related to Scratch whatsoever? I mean, they can talk about Scratch but Scratch takes no responsibility for anything said on the forum, because usually those words don't make people feel too good inside. Another reason that people shouldn't use them.

It's a great idea, but Scratch is meant to be kid-friendly. People who think they're mature enough will go on and get hurt. Besides, people could post all sorts of stuff in there - including nudity. While there might be some things that might be midly inappropriate for kids, some things aren't appropriate for anyone. It would just be an accident waiting to happen.

Yikes, you may be right. But there's got to be something we can do about it.

Curse words are just very offensive insults. And obviously insults aren't very polite to use in the fist place. It's all a misuse of words, and then they became taboo.

Well, for now, if they want to swear rampantly, they'll get a warning or be banned. They'll just have to do it somewhere else.
I don't think it's much of an issue - usually, when somebody swears, a moderator finds it and removes it soon enough, so I don't think it's an issue at the moment.

That seems to be the case, doesn't it? Nice sig by the way.

I guess you're right... for now, at least. Maybe militarydudes should close this now.

Those two words aren't even slightly offensive to me...
How does it offend younger users?
Anyway, sometimes you just want to be able to say what you really think...

They don't offend me either. But younger people are offended by them. I have a friend who is my age (I'm 13) and he doesn't like it when I say C*** or H*** in front of him, and he's not religious at all. I like to say what I think to, but on scratch I can find other words of discontent than the things not allowed on scratch.

I completely agree. What do you gain from posting naughty words? Nothing. Really, I never understood why people made these words up in the first place.
To have something shocking to say when they get upset?
Meh, that's a silly explanation. ^^

I agree - what do you get from it? I can't see how it will help you in the forums; it may help you explain how to swear, but why? These forums aren't for that sort of thing. What matters is, will it help you share information on how to Scratch? Will it help others? No! - how will it help you teach others how to script scrolling, for example? It doesn't.
The only case where you should need (may even not need) to use those words is in a thread like this...

Personally, I feel that real cuss words should not be allowed, but stuff like <place where the devil resides> and <the stuff you find on your shoe> or even <what god does to sinners> should be allowed. It's not like they're even censored...^^

I think that <place where the devil resides> isn't so much a curse word, <what god does to sinners> can be used in the right format, but <the stuff you find on your shoe> doesn't really need to be used. Why not just say crud or something? Same meaning, same idea, but a little less hurtful to others. I mean, you can say those words to people in real life if you want to, but you shouldn't have to use them on the Internet. Like I said before, there are 2nd graders (Or even younger) going on here, and you wouldn't go saying those words in their presence. Online, you don't even know who you're talking to, so it's best to just play it safe, you know what I mean?

I don't think the point of that forum was really just so you could swear. (Or if the creator of the forum even considered that.) I think it was just a forum intended for Scratch using teens to talk about things that they were most interested in.
Sure, you could post that stuff in Miscellaneous, but I think they wanted their own little place. And they're not hurting anyone here on the Scratch main site, so why does it even matter?
